View Full Version : bolt not coming undone on asw-15b mainwheel

April 1st 09, 05:13 AM
Trying to change the tube out. There's 3 small 10 mm nuts on one
side. One of them came right off no problem. The other two, turn,
but the bolts spin with the nut! The backside of the bolt is inside
the wheel. The only one that came off, was just easy to unscrew.

If I can't reach inside and hold the backside of the bolt, then how
can I get these three bolts off to change the tire?

If anyone has done this, and I can send pictures to your email....then
shoot me a line at "liv2soar at yahoo dot com"

Thermals are here!

To be accurate, you have NOTHING on one side of the wheel and a number of threads and nuts on the other? Is this right? And one is off OK, 2 are spinning?

If so, you may need to do some engineering.
Get a drillpress and a ring-spanner of the right size for the nut.
Hold the nut with the spanner and carefully drill the stud through the centre of the nut, use a small drill first as a pilot.

Be careful not to drill past the depth of the nut, into the hub.

It is probable that the nut will come undone before the drilling has finished.

Either way you will need new nuts and studs BUT- there must be a reason why the stud is turning, such as a broken keeper plate within the hub.

I am sure with knowledge of ASW-15 style of wheel someone can add to this post, do the above as a last resort.

Remove the brake assembly to expose the head of the 3 bolts.

I decided to think OUTSIDE the box.

Here's what I came up with. Since I work for an airline, I just
brought the stuff to a mechanic friend today. Real simple. He said
watch this, and practically rebuilt the entire assembly, tire, brake
and all. Amazing how fast people can work on stuff when it's what
they do everyday for a living.

Easier and better solution!
