View Full Version : Ingredients for a wing wheel needed

May 16th 09, 04:20 PM
I am planning on building my own wing wheel to tow out to the runway.
I have an old mountain bike with a front wheel I can use(rather
small). Other than that, I would need all the parts to make it.

Anybody have a list of parts they can recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Scott,

Throw the Mt Bike wheel away and start from scratch. Get a small
plastic 12" or 16" wheel similar to:

16" PLASTIC 5-SPOKE FRONT WHEEL BLACK (about $25 new or $5 at a
garage sale)

Get some 1" x 1" AL square tubing to make the two arms.

Get a small gas strut for either a small car or the lift on a truck
camper shell

Make an AL or fiberglass sleeve

Line with rubber backed carpet (boat) from Lowes or Home Depot

For fancy get a DeStaCo Clamp to hold the al or fiberglass sleeve
closed

Put a quick pull pin on the strut if you need it to fold.

Look at a newer unit or image of one and assemble.

e-mail if you need an image sent.
