The country is fairly large, with diverse conditions. Any region in
particular that your family is interested in?
There are some regions with more reliable summer weather than
others. The Southwestern states would very likely provide sunny days
for a 1-week trip. Some other parts have great places to fly but have
a good possibility of "couldn't even get in a full 18 holes of golf
due to the rain" (stolen from Ray's 15M Nationals post) even in
summer.

Tom Knauff has been advertising just such a "camp" to learn gliders,
in Julian, PA. That's a pretty nice place to fly, and there are no
better instructors. Look at eglider.org, and especially at the lower
part of the page at http://www.eglider.org/index.php?act=viewDoc&docId=10.

Good luck, and welcome to the club,
Ed

Warner Springs, Ca!

Open every day, super experienced instructors, family can stay at the
Warner Springs Ranch (with olympic size pool, hot springs pool, horse
back riding, golf, hiking), only one mile away. Half way between Los
Angeles and San Diego. www.skysailing.com

Arizona Soaring Inc. in Phoenix Arizona. We are open every day all
year except for X-mas & Thanksgiving and only have maybe 6 or 7 days
each year that are un-flyable due to weather. Largest training fleet
in the country, private airport, full-time professional instructors
with decades of experience teaching everyone from teenagers to fighter
pilots. You will fly according to your schedule as much or as little
as you want. In business 40 years.
