Weather is shaping up nicely here in south central Texas. We had
several good cross-country flights in and around the Region 10 South
contest task area this weekend. (you can now download the contest
turnpoint files at the World Turnpoint Exchange website).
You can see some of these flights on the USA pages of the OLC website.
In the US Club section view flights for Greater Houston Soaring Assoc.
and the Soaring Club of Houston. My personal flight on Sunday the 31st
(in my Genesis 2 w/o water) was 193.0 miles in 3:53. Thermal averages
ranged between 3.5-5.5 with most topping out at 5,200ft msl. My
highest altitude was 6,200ft msl (over terrain averaging about 400ft
msl). There were a couple of 500K+ flights accomplished as well.
Keep up with the OLC in the next few weeks to see how we're doing in
the area. I'll also be putting a file download page on the Region 10
website (see address following).
The Region 10 South Championship preferential entry deadline is June
11. The contest dates are August 9-15th at Brenham, Texas. To learn
more (and get really motivated to enter) go to: http://www.houstonsoaring.org/2009R10
But don't wait too long. Our entry limit for this contest is 45! If
you have any questions, be sure to contact me through the email link
on the Region 10 contest website.
