Very sad and unexpected news. Here is the notice on the Texas Soaring
Association website:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dean Carswell
after a sudden illness on Friday [July 10, 2009]. Dean passed after a
perfect day of glider flying, giving instruction, a little acrobatics,
and drinking beer with his flying buddies at the end of the day.
Tammie is making arrangements with a service being planned for
Tuesday, July 14th in the afternoon. We will post more information
when available.
All of us at TSA will miss Dean's friendship, his dedication to the
club, and his vast contributions to the soaring community.

Dean was a great asset to our sport. He will be missed. My condolences

Very sad news indeed. Dean was an extremely nice person and gentleman. I
didn't know him well, but whenever I had the opportunity to talk with him I
always enjoyed it.
He did so very much for the sport of soaring.
