You know, seeing these B1 pictures reminds me of my impression of the B1.

I have seen nearly all of the modern era warbirds, and marvel at the
sophistication of the B2, and the abilities of the Harrier, and of each of
the planes unique abilities, but I still come back to the B1.

It has a grace, but at the same time a raw power, still mixed with beauty.

None of others stir my soul like a slow pass of the B1 then kicking in full
afterburners to a climbing turn. It projects a raw power that reaches
through the gut all of the way to the toenails. Wow!

I don't know if another warbird will ever get me like that. I probably have
not expressed my impression very well, but does anyone else have that type
of reaction, like me?

Thanks for the pictures.

Actually Jim, you did just fine. The B-1 is an amazing aircraft and it does
have that sleek yet powerfull look about it that is a rare find these days.
Since the Concorde isn't flying any longer, this is my favorite operational
bird. I've seen a few on the ground and had the pleasure to see a few B-1s
flying as well. The flying display was very impressive. I couldn't believe
how manouverable the aircraft was given its size. A high speed pass with the
afterburners going is a treat as is a slow speed pass with the wings fully
spread out and then pouring on the coals and sweeping the wings backwards as
speed builds. SWEET!

I hope to see a B-1 next weekend and get some shots.

B-1s are great at airshows. They're definitely impressive and pretty,
but overall what a colossal waste of money and resources the B-1 program
has been. It should've stayed cancelled.

It's a far better bomb-truck than the B-52 and way less expensive than the
B-2 so why should it have stayed cancelled?

There is a magazine put out by the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum
called.... oddly enough... Air and Space. :) They did a story on the B-1 and
came away quite impressed. The B-1 certainly had its' share of teething
problems and a few were lost in training but they certainly did quite well
in combat and you can't keep the B-52 flying forever so the B-1 is more than
just fine. It is a spectacular aircraft and I agree that it should not have
been cancelled in the first place. I'm only sorry they didn't go the
distance and develop the high speed capability of the aircraft a little bit
more. Apparently, when they revived the program, they didn't go all out and
fix the variable geometry inlet door situation so that the aircraft could
fly at high mach. I believe the B-1/Rockwell guys endured some ribbing over
it and a few of the Concorde engineers offered to fix it for them. :)
Regardless, it is a fantastic aircraft and it serves its purpose
brilliantly.
