Radio - foul language by
M. J. Powell
Another newsgroup has got on to the subject of foul language in war
films, usually Army.
I mentioned that the radio language during the Battle of Britain was so
bad that High Command wanted to remove WAAFS from all rooms where the
radio transmissions could be heard.
This is not depicted in films...

F-104 maxed out by
Bjørnar Bolsøy
http://www.f-16.net/reference/versions/f16_79.html
I've read that the F-104's speed is really limited by the
compressor inlet temperature on the J79, and that the
airframe itself supports much higher speeds. Since the
J79 fits (modified) in a F-16, what then if we were to
fit a GE-F110 type engine...

A record day for P-3Cs !! by
AllanStern
I logged more P-3s today than I have ever before. I began hearing them
before 8 am EST this morning, and I am still hearing them now.
At one point there were about four or five of them in the pattern at
Patrick AFB AT THE SAME TIME, while a Cherry Point MCAS C-130T and Charleston
C-17 was there...

Aviation radio scanner tips? by
Jim Atkins
Lots of air traffic around here all the time (Hornets, 53Es, Cobras) and I
was thinking about getting a scanner to listen in to the traffic up on the

Photos of Jupiter missiles being installed in Turkey - 1961 by
Rusty B
I discovered an interesting website by a person that took part
in the installation of Jupiter missiles in Turkey in 1961.
He has some great color photos of the event. The Jupiters have
the Turkish flag and some other symbols painted ot their side.
This is one of the events that led to the Cuban...

Looking for helicopter audio – MI-4 engine
A Finnish team of aviation historicians and enthusiasts is putting up a
display of the Soviet built MI-4 helicopter for an aviation museum display.
They have a short movie, shot in the 1970s by a MI-4 pilot, which will
be used. The black/white film...

Keeping Me Out of Your Warbird? by
Stephen Harding
Looking over recent photos of the P-38 "Glacier Girl", and reading
all ($$$) that was involved in its restoration, I was wondering...
What's stopping me from laying low during the next air show
and in the early hours of the morning, climbing into the cockpit
of my favorite warbird, and flying it...

WW1 RAF night bomber markings question? by
Bill Burns
I came across an interesting reference in a history of aircraft markings
book to an apparently short lived, early war upper-wing national marking for
WW1 RAF night bombers. The reference described it simply as a white disc
used only on night bombers. This marking was different from the white...

Radio silence, Market Garden and death at Arnhem by
ArtKramr
It was September 17th 1944. We were returning from a mission. As we flew west
we could spot a sky full of C-47's pulling gliders. The sky was black with
them. As we watched them fly by us, going East, the command radio came alive.
Someone blurted over the Command set and in the clear, "Wow, look at...
