Aircraft growth (question starting with Art Kramer) by
Howard Berkowitz
What reaction do you have to the size of WWII aircraft versus modern
ones, where a "lightweight" fighter such as an F-16 is probably
comparable in size to Willie the Wolf -- and a F-15 the size of a B-17.
Must be a strange sensation -- I'd like to hear your thoughts.

effectiveness of infra red sensors at detecting aircraft by
Fe
How effective are infra-red sensors, such as those on some anti aircraft
missiles, at detecting aircraft? Stealth aircraft are, I imagine, harder
to detect, but by how much?
Also, is there a simple rule-of-thumb relationship between how fast an
aircraft is travelling and how much air friction...

Tandem Mi-26? by
PDR
With all the interest in tactical VTOL and airmobility, has anyone
seriously considered a Chinook type tandem using Mi-26 rotor/engine
combos (or similar scale western versions) at each end?
Should be able to achieve at least 40,000 kg lift over 350-400km. With
a large cabin, medium armour...

B-17 at Hamilton AFB by
F9pnthr
I have a photo taken at Hamilton AFB in California in April, 1953. It's of a
B-17, probably a "G" because there's a circular plate where the chin turret
would have been. The upper surfaces are highly plished, the lower more dull and
oxidized. Unfortunately the view is of the nose and wings at a...

Not to sound like an F-22 cheerleader but I thought this was interesting. . . by
Scott Ferrin
"“We’re way ahead of where people expected us to be,” Secretary Roche
said of the Raptor’s initial operational test evaluation trials.
The secretary used the results of a recent combat simulation to
describe the Raptor’s capabilities. “We had five F-15 Eagles against
one Raptor,” he said. “The...

Mach 2, 60,000 foot B-1R by
Paul F Austin
From this week's AvWeek. Boeing responded to an Air Force RFI against a
requirement for improved bombers by suggesting re-engining the B-1 fleet
with F-119 engines with the following characteristics: Mach 2 cruise, 3000
mile radius, 60,000 foot ceiling (with a couple of hours loiter).
Is this...
