Midair Over Long Island by
Marco Leon
....and there were no injuries, thank God. Google for news articles. It was
between a Cessna 152 and a Piper Saratoga. ATC, with a veteran at the mic,
was excellent in their handling of the situation. ATC even called-out the
Saratoga traffic to the Cessna but I guess he didn't see it.
For...

cancer?? by
Tri-Pacer
I've recently read a couple of articles concerning people who have had
cancer and upon completion of treatment been able to obtain a special
issuance.
Why would a special issuance be required if the person had been successfully
treated for cancer and was free of the disease?
I don't remember...

NextGen anyone? by
Angelo Campanella[_2_]
The site
http://www.jpdo.gov/nextgen.asp
touts on how flight planning will "revolutionize" by 2025 or thereabouts.
It's a 2003 Bush plan to plan for the future.
But when I read it, it sounds like a job security plan for aviation wonk
civil servants. It alludes to great integration efforts of...

Flightpath on History Television by
Marco Leon
Not to be confused with the History Channel in the US (although they may be
related).
With Discovery Wings gone and Wings to Adventure cancelled, I was going
through some media withdrawals. I was pleasantly surprised to come across
this show. Someone was kind enough to post the episodes over at...

Bizarre radio experience by
Don Poitras
So there I was. 9,500 ft. over Albemarle Sound in NC. Headed toward
Kitty Hawk to meet some people flying up from Myrtle Beach attending
the Beach Aero Club yearly meeting. I'm getting flight following from
Washington Center and being pushed along with a 50 kt. tailwind (I took
a picture of my GPS...

Boeing gives Chicago $10-million by
Larry Dighera
In light of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley's March 31, 2003 illegal
midnight raid on Meigs Airport
http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/newsitems/2003/03-1-157x.html which
resulted in the closing of the airport and FAA fines for the city,
this is a little ironic:

NASA exposes FAA lies by
AirSafetyPatriot
MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. — Anxious to avoid upsetting air
travelers, NASA is withholding results from an unprecedented
national survey of pilots that found safety problems like
near collisions and runway interference occur far more
frequently than the government previously recognized.

Blended-wing Airliner by

Thirty Five percent more fuel efficient. That would translate into
less expensive tickets. And just a fraction of the noise. But will
Boeing ever build something like this? Or will they wait until Airbus
or Embraer or the Chinese or the Russians build...

Airmap 500 Navigation question by
Bravo Two Zero
I was playing with my old Airmap 500 that has not actually seen any 'active'
service since I purchased it.
Anyway, I entered a simple route A - B - C - D.
When I select 'Navigate Route' , it would appear that it is trying to go
directly to point D without going via A B & C. Is this...

Crosswinds & Obstacles are a funny thing by
Kyle Boatright
I'm always puzzled by the impact obstacles (trees, buildings, etc) have on a
crosswind.
On the day ten years ago when I earned my tailwheel endorsement, there was a
15 knot direct crosswind above the treeline. But, the field was buried in a
small gap between 75' trees and the crosswind...

Listening for Quiet by
daffy
Quite a good article in the Nov/Dec AARP magazine titled "Listening
for Quiet".
It talks about a silent sanctuary in Washington's Olympic National
park. The article
concluded by someone complaining about the silence broken by a small
plane.
The article said "The small plane flying north more than...
