Air Traffic/Pilot Terminology by
[email protected]
I was recently on a flight where I was able to listen to the Pilots
speak to Air Traffic control. It was quite fascinating but I
understood very little of what they were saying. Does anyone know of
a good resource for their terminology? Also, I was wondering if anyone
knew what the following...

Insuring a Columbia 400 & weekend only insurance by
Justin Gombos
Question for insurance experts -
Insurance for the Columbia 400 is absurdly high compared to other
similar aircraft, presumably because the premiums are loaded due to
lack of significant statistics. Any idea how long potential Columbia
buyers can expect to wait for the premium to stabilize?
Can...

Corey Lidle Crash (My opinion on what Happened) by
Felix
I'm sure this was discussed for a while after it happened...I wanted
to bring this up again...I was just reading an article that I came
across explaining how Corey Lidle's crash into a Manhattan Building
could have happened. Some people say it was mechanical failure, others
say it because he flew...

Cessna's new LSA: "Skycatcher" by
miffich
I think people complaining that the Cessna LSA isn't competetive in terms of useful load are missing something.
They've obviously targeted the training market and as such probably have ruggedized the airframe and systems
to withstand the abuse of legions of students learning to aviate. It's not...

496 beats G1000... by
Dan Luke[_2_]
....in at least five ways that I've found so far:
o The 496 allows extensive customizing of displayed data fields. The G1000
is very limited in this respect.
o The 496 automatically records each flight's origin, destination, time
and distance. The G1000 lacks this feature.
o The...

Denny
Well, for a while I thought a new day had dawned... Here's the

Launched VFR from Saginaw headed to parts 28 miles south of
Cleveland... 19 Miles North of Detroit City Airport (I refuse to call
it the other name) I called ATC and asked for VFR following and Lake

Garmin 596 at OSH? by
Dan Luke[_2_]
"Nope. Absolutely not. Guaranteed. No new Garmin aviation portable at Oshkosh.
That ship will not sail."
From one of the Cessna Pilots Ass'n forums. Apparently, Garmin dealers have
been given the word.

Wish ya'll were here by
Dan Luke
We're relaxing in the cool evening air on row 564, just north of RWY 9/27 at
OSH, digesting burgers & beers from Friar Tuck's.
The field has closed for arrivals and things have gotten quiet after a busy
day. Looking forward to the first day of the show tomorrow and the N40HOPS
party...

Read all about me! by
Bob Gardner
Best-selling mystery author Marcia Muller has written me into "The

forewarned me, so reading my own name was a pleasant surprise.

The ethanol scam by
Jay Honeck
As gas -- and corn -- prices creep ever higher, everyone in my great
State of Iowa is all ablush with talk of riches pouring in, thanks to
ethanol production. They can barely contain their glee at this
remarkable turn of economic fortune. (Remember, just a few years ago
farmers here had one foot...

New use for a Pilot Certificate by
El Maximo
I took a trip with my family and went to a website to find a hotel. Of
course I chose the lowest rate. When I finished the confirmation process, I
saw that I had requested the Government rate. The difference was over $100
per night ($148 vs $269 per night)
OOPS!
Spoke with my younger brother,...

John Travolta sues his home airport by

Back in the early '80s, I became involved with Arthur and Terri Jones
when Arthur attempted to start an airline in the Los Angeles area using
3 B-707 aircraft that he had purchased. The attempt failed when Arthur
refused to provide adequate financial data to the DOT. Forbes listed him
