PIREP SCK by

Pirep Stockton (SCK)
Thanks for all the recommendations for Harris ranch, but I decided
that I wasn't up to the challenge of that little runway. I made my
fuel and food stop and Stockton, instead.
I'm sure the food wasn't as good. Maybe the gas ($5.76 a gallon) was
less, but I wouldn't count on...

Twenty minutes in the queue awaiting the new and improved FSS by
Peter R.
Called Lockheed Martin FSS this AM for my flight briefing. Spent 20 minutes
in the "we are experiencing high call volume" queue waiting for a live
briefer to take my call.
When one finally did, he was servicing my upstate NY state flight from
Phoenix, Az. Nice enough briefer but so much for the...

Crash at Mountain Air, the very scenic airstrip in North Carolina by
Peter R.
Just read of a small airplane crash at Mountain Air, the golf and airport
community located in the mountains of North Carolina that always advertises
in the various US flying magazines. I was always intrigued by this airstrip
but thought that the approach end of 14 there looked quite challanging,...

Oil in cylinder, other cylinder issues by
Robert M. Gary
I have a mid time (1000 SFNEW) IO-360 Lycoming engine.
Recently oil consumption has increased from about 1 quart/10 hours to
about 1 quart/ 5 hours. For a long time we've collected oil on the
bottom #1 plug but it seems like its worse now.
In addition, we've had high aluminum levels in our oil...

Wierd TFR in Mid California by
Flyin'[email protected]
I loaded up the AOPA flight planner last night and notice a large area in
mid western California that had a TFR. The shape was odd, and it was way
bigger than anything I had seen. I read the text and it was controlled by
the USCG, but I could not find any reason for the TFR. Anyone have any
idea...

You're invited to not one, but TWO Oshkosh parties!
That's right, TWO Oshkosh blow-outs, organized just for pilots and
their guests. Check 'em out:

Where is everyone? by
Jay Honeck
A friend of mine flew his Cherokee Six from PA to MI last week, in
perfect weather, and told me that he was one of three GA planes on any
center or approach frequency for the entire flight...
Mary, the kids, and I flew (in absolute perfect VFR conditions) to
Springfield, IL this past Sunday. ...

Saw an interception yesterday! by

With the President in New London yesterday for the USCGA graduation,
I'm sure there were TFR's... I didn't check since I didn't go flying
yesterday. Apparently somebody else didn't, either... I was driving
east down Rt. 95 when I saw something odd in the sky... as it came
around I could see it was...

Engine-out procedures and eccentric forces on engine pylons by
Mxsmanic
Long ago it occurred to me that a twin-engine jet running with one engine out
might be putting tremendous eccentric stress on the plyon and mounting of the
running engine (meaning stress not aligned with the normal thrust vector of
the engine). Today it occurred to me that this might not be true...

and has managed (in just five short years) to attract...

Reliable method for air/ground communications? by
JDK
Anyone have a suggestion for a reliable method for air/ground
communications in-flight?
I'd like to give a heads-up to family on the ground when I'm near (say
within 15 minutes) to landing, and am not sure how I would do that mid-
flight.
