The Worst Aviation Movie of All Time by
Jay Honeck
We often talk about the BEST aviation movie here, but how 'bout the
worst?
Having spent nearly a year of my life showing aviation movies every
Tuesday night in our theater at the hotel, I am in a somewhat unique
position to comment on this. I've seen over 50 aviation movies in a
row, and can lend...

Ap Artilce bashes GA by
Roger (K8RI)
An AP article that starts out
"SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The federal government has taken billions of
dollars from the taxes and fees paid by airline passengers every time
they fly and awarded it to small airports used mainly by private
pilots and globe-trotting corporate executives." gives a very...

What's the scoop on Headsets Inc? by
Jim Carter[_1_]
I have a nice set of DC 10-13-S that I'd like to convert to ANR. Headsets Inc advertises in AOPA Pilot magazine and has a reasonable web site for products and services. They also have some customer testimonials of varying degrees of flattery on their site.
I'd sure be interested in hearing other...

Been taken over? by
Crash Lander[_1_]
I asked my instructor on the weekend what a pilot is expected to do, should
he come across a downed plane, or was in the vicinity on another plane that
was going down, or making a forced landing.
He said that you should tune to the relevant ATC frequency, and inform them
of what has/is...

Got my fix today by
Oz Lander[_2_]
Had another flying lesson today. The plan was to go back out into the
training area again today. Instructor said we'd do some more forced
landing practice, some more stalls, trying to get a wing to drop, which
apparently doesn't happen real easy in the Gazelle, and we'd also do
steep descending...

Leaning at higher altitudes by
Mxsmanic
Am I correct in assuming that changes to mixture diminish with increasing
altitude? That is, a mixture change is more important and larger when going
from sea level to 5000 feet than when going from 10000 to 15000 feet?

Power Supply in 98 C182S by
Dan[_1_]
All,
Our club is in the final stages of purchasing a 1998 Cessna 182S.
Much to my dismay, I noticed the lack of a 12-volt cigarette lighter
(or it's 24-volt equivalent) anywhere to be found. (am I just not
looking in the right place?)
What are the options here? How difficult and/or expensive...

VOR routes without VORs by
Mxsmanic
Is it "cheating" or bad form or against regulations to plan a route based on
VORs and then fly it by GPS, particularly when the aircraft may be out of
range of the VORs at some point along its route?

Bad landings by
Jim Jones
I went up today to practice crosswind landings. The wind was about down the
runway at my home airport so I went to Sky Manor (N40). This airport has a
2500x50 foot runway and requires vigilence in gusty winds. I did 2 landings
and 1 go around (due to the gusty wind) using runway 25 at Sky...

Question: Standard rate turns, constant rate turns, and airspeed by
Robert Barker
Working on getting my PPL and I'm trying to figure out the difference
between standard rate turns versus constant rate turns and their
relationship to speed.
IIRC, a standard rate turn is 3 degrees per second and turn you 180 degrees
in 1 minute. The rule of thumb for the bank angle to achieve...

PING for Newps by
Montblack
"I will be in town on a hit and run raid Friday to pick up my brothers boat
and bring it to its new home."
I'll be gone all day Friday - Bloomington and Eden Prairie.
Are you over-nighting?
Do you have a dark corner of the airport picked out yet, for the Bo?

Aircraft without pilots by
Mxsmanic
I'm just starting an appropriately-named thread for this topic, as it seems
like something worthy of discussion.
The specter of full automation replacing pilots entirely continues to loom
ever larger in commercial and military aviation. The old arguments against it
are beginning to ring quite...
