Looking for a math wiz! by
Chad Speer
Okay, I know I've seen a lot of engineers and technical folks on here.
I have a complex math problem relating to the classic wind triangle
that I posted on sci.math and received little response. I don't know
if they're stumped or just not interested. :-)
Here is a copy of my original post and the...

Availability of the book Darker shades of blue: the rogue pilot byTony Kern by
G. Sylvester
I've read Flight Discipline by Anthony Kern. I thought it was pretty
good. I've heard Darker shades of blue : the rogue pilot is a must
read. I realize it is out of print but why is some aviation book going
for $100-200 USD used? Is it that much of a classic? Is there that
much of a demand...

One More Reason I Prefer GA by
Kyle Boatright
Not being IFR rated (or having an IFR capable airplane), Kelly and I took a
people tube from Atlanta to San Antonio on Thursday and flew back on
Christmas Day. We usually take commercial flights when we absolutely have
to be somewhere. You really can't count on getting anywhere VFR,...

Soot in fuel servo by
Robert M. Gary
The fuel shop just called regarding my sticking fuel servo. The unit
has 900 SNEW 10 years ago. The shop said they did a full overhaul on
the unit. The only oddity they found in the unit that may explain the
hanging is soot in the air side of the unit. Since air flows across the
unit I'm assuming...

Heard an E-6 Heavy (WTF I said to myself when I heard it) call Center for an
IFR clearance to RTB after performing 'due regard' over oceanic airspace.
What is 'due regard'?

"The Shepard" Christmas Eve Story by
Kevin Dunlevy
The Shepherd is a 1976 novel by Frederick Forsyth, but is actually a
well-known Royal Air Force story from considerably earlier.
The Shepherd relates the story of a De Havilland Vampire pilot, going home
on Christmas Eve 1957, whose aircraft suffers a complete electrical failure
over the North...

Circular runways for airports? by
Larry Dighera
Now here's an idea almost as good as underground airports*:
http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg19225780.021-circular-runways-for-airports.html
A CIRCULAR runway for airports is being considered by the US navy, and
the idea was recently tested in principle at General Motors' proving
ground. It...

Why there is an angel on top of the Christmas Tree by
john smith
Once upon a time, very long ago, Santa was having a very bad
Christmas.
The reindeers had gotten into the eggnog and got themselves quite
drunk. Rudolph's nose was bright red, and the reindeer were
tangled in their traces. Then as Santa was loading presents on
to the sleigh, the runner broke off...

CPL + IR for less than 30 k USD? by
Pawel Neugebauer
Dears,
Does anybody know some reasonable cheap piloting course for CPL with IR
(Instructor), inc. accomodation at the school? Am I correct - that South
Africa - would be the cheapest way, also concerning accomodation costs?
Looking forward to hear from you,

Uncrewed aerial vehicles: no pilot, no problem? by
Larry Dighera
Excerpt from article at link:
http://www.newscientist.com/channel/tech/mg19225806.400-uncrewed-aerial-vehicles-no-pilot-no-problem.html
Even if the industry gets its act together in time for the 2011
conference, competition for the desired frequencies - probably between
3 and 10 gigahertz - will...

Real-life Landing Performance after "flying" MS Flight Sim by
Jay Honeck
As most of you know, we've built the "Kiwi" (See it he
http://alexisparkinn.com/the_kiwi_is_born.htm) at our inn -- a
full-sized flight simulator -- as a prototype for several sims we're
planning to install at the Iowa Children's Museum, as part of a
permanent aviation exhibit.
Naturally, we've...

Two essential items... by
john smith
.... for traveling in hostle terrain and weather would be a satellite
phone and PLB.
Satphones can be rented for a basic rate of $20 per week, plus call time.
PLB's can be purchased for as little as $425.
As long as you can see the sky, you can tell someone where you are.

Twas the night before Christmas by
Jeff Shirton
Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the ramp,
Not an airplane was stirring, not even a Champ.
The aircraft were fastened to tiedowns with care,
In hopes that come morning, they all would be there.
The fuel trucks were nestled, all snug in their spots,
With gusts from two-forty at 39...
