GPS navigation by
David W
Hello to all,
Do most modern aircraft rely on the GPS for navigation, and to what
extent do they rely on it?
And is it true that such aircraft's navigation systems use maps
'optimised' for GPS?
And finally, if I may, what level of positional accuracy must aircraft
relying on GPS for navigation...

getting "all available information" before flight by
Robert M. Gary
I ran across this web site that seems to do a good job of getting you
some of the most important information before flying. Seems to have
more information for California than other states.

Niagara Falls to Dearborn, MI questions! by
Jay Honeck
Our flight plan for our upcoming vacation is slowly coming together -- and
one of the legs on this 1500 mile excursion is going to take us from Niagara
Falls, NY (IAG) to Dearborn, MI (actually Detroit City, DET). This is
going to take us over Canada -- something we've never done...

service terminated squawk 1200 by
Robert M. Gary
I'm curious how important it really is to punch in 1200 as soon as the
controller instructs squawk 1200 as you approach for landing at an
uncontrolled field. I've always blown it off and just landed with my
original code. My thinking is 1) Of the things I need to do to
configure for landing, watch...

FAA fuel waivers by
[email protected]
Can anyone back up this claim? It sounds convincing, but I want to
have a second opinion:
----Start quote-----
Apparently, the FAA (the same FAA who was going against our contract
and has cut out budget, cut trainees to replace all the people
retiring, and is attempting to speed up training by...

Oregon vacation report (really long) by
JJS
The wife and I just back from our Oregon vacation that you helped us plan. You guys did a wonderful job.
Day 1: Left OKC on a Canadair regional jet to Phoenix. Boarded a 737 whose APU wouldn't start. 107 degrees on the
tarmac and no AC. And we left our Cherokee at home why? Oh well. Landed...

Speaking of Vision -- How 'bout Progressive Bifocals? by
Jay Honeck
I have been forced to face the fact that I can no longer read a
sectional chart with my current glasses. It's been getting worse for
some time, but lately I've realized that it has become downright
dangerous. (Moreso driving a car, actually.)
So, it was off to the eye doctor, who said I would...

Landing airplanes by
Dan Luke
With all the recent discussion about the landing quirks of various aircraft,
I've started to feel I must be missing something.
In every airplane I've ever landed, including the "notorious" Mooney and
Twin Commanche, I've used the same technique: pull the power off and round
out close to the...

Unusual Vacuum system indication, please help explain. by
Al
Hi Group.
I had a trip Friday in a 1977 C-337G(pressurized). On the taxi out I
noticed the suction gauge was pegged high. The AI erected ok, but the DG
required many updates on the way to the run-up area. Pulling on to the
runway, we corrected the DG again, by 30 degrees.
We flew VFR to Boise, and...
