Portable 4 place intercoms-roll your own? by
John T
I was looking at these, in anticipation of getting my ticket soon (I
hope!). The prices seem to be all over the board. Many seem to have an
add on module for use with 4 passengers.
I certainly don't know how to design electronic stuff, although I can
read a schematic and build something from one,...

Instruement checkride...for real this time (long) by
Jack Allison
The short answer: I passed :-)
The long version:
After last weekend's check ride was postponed with the examiner coming
down sick at the last minute, I had an extra week to fly and study. It
turned out that I was only able to fly once but had plenty of time to
hit the books.
I didn't sleep very...

How's this for a Tower/Pilot exchange in an Emergency? by
Kyle Boatright
Instead of responding to a request for vectors in an engine failure over
water situation, this controller played Q&A. No telling if the plane would
have made land if the controller had answered *the* question. The pilot and
his teenage daughter died in the crash...
The airplane (a C-195) was...

Positively Titanic -- Congrats, Roger Long! by
Jay Honeck
Let me be the first to say: Great show, Roger! Congratulations on coming
up with a new theory of Titanic's demise.
To be able to "fly" 2.5 miles straight down into the depths of the North
Atlantic -- wow! What an experience that must've been.
Now go buy a Bonanza with all the speaking fees...

Kinda sad... by
Jay Honeck
Yesterday was gorgeous, CAVU weather in Iowa, so we took advantage and flew
to Ft. Dodge for the first time.
Located in north central Iowa, Ft. Dodge is the site of Iowa's only Flight
Service Station. We have talked to them literally hundreds of times over
the years -- but we had never actually...

Apollo 800 retaining screw by
Roger Long
We had to use a screw extractor to remove the retaining screw of our
Apollo Flybuddy Loran. We thought the unit was junk so let the screw
disappear. We then were able to get the unit repaired and now need
the long retaining screw.
If anyone knows where I could get one of these or the information...

Class E or Class G - another one of those that makes you go 'hmmmmm' by
JT
We all know (or should) that when a Class D airport tower closes, the
airspace reverts to Class E or Class G and is specified in the A/FD.
Question is what determines which airspace it reverts to???
CFI Test Prep question 6930 answer states, "When that tower ceases to
operate, it reverts to Class...

Another one down near DC yesterday by
Wiz
I hate to keep posting these, but it helps us to be aware of such
things. Here's the link to a Washington Post story about a Cessna with
three souls aboard that went down attempting to land in poor
visibility, after being warned by unicom about the conditions.
Yesterday was a bad day, with this...

Freaky number 11? by
Flyingmonk
The Freaky Number 11
Definitely do the last part; it is really quite freaky!!
1) New York City has 11 letters.
2) Afghanistan has 11 letters.
3) Ramsin Yuseb (The terrorist who threatened the Twin Towers in 1993)
has 11 letters.
4) George W. Bush has 11 letters.
Now here is what is interesting...

Posting idea?? by
Montblack
With all of these nonsense posts/threads ...I have an idea:
If someone (or many of us at one time) would reply to these threads, but
remove rec.aviation - would the thread then follow that post - with rec
aviation removed? Throw the hounds off our scent so to speak. Could it work?
Regardless if...

Telex 4105 vs Stratus 50 by
Robert Barker
Just got my tax refund and want to get a new headset. I like Telex and am
trying to decide between the Stratus and the 4105. Is the performance of
the Stratus worth the extra $300?
Thanks
