Romance of steam by
Denny
Sunday out on a test flight with my son after installing new oil hoses,
etc... We are out over Lake Huron and looking inland at the color
changes in the trees and about 15 miles away we see what looks like a
major fire with black and white smoke (old tires?)... So we change
course to go see... We...

Runway ID by
Lakeview Bill
The original poster got it right with his use of the phrase "Runway ID",
because it is, in fact, an ID based on a number, as opposed to some type of
number.
What is the magnetic heading of Runway 5?
If someone is named "Fred", do you refer to them as "Zero Fred"?
The point is, we are dealing...

A new first by
Jay Honeck
So we're climbing out of Prairie du Chein, WI (KPDC) on a beautiful early
fall afternoon. We've just been to the local riverboat's all-you-can-eat
buffet, and Mary is flying as PIC with my 27-year old nephew in the right
seat.
I'm in the back seat with my brother-in-law, and we've just reclined...

leaning below 5000 by
Jose
There was a discussion in my club about leaning the engine (of our
cherokees) below 5000 feet in cruise. This was prompted by the
observation in the manual that the engine should be leaned above 5000
feet at all times in cruise, and below 5000 feet at the pilot's
discrescion. So, how should the...

License To Taxi? by
SteveT
Hello All,
Perhaps someone hereabouts can settle a discussion I had with a fellow
passenger on an airliner the other day: Suppose there's a 747 parked
at a gate and they need to taxi it over to a maintenance area. Does it
require a licensed pilot to taxi a plane that large (or any plane, for
that...

the right direction! (This just in, from Yahoo News):

Sport Pilot Training in VA by
W P Dixon
Just an update,
Gig informed me in another thread that this place had recieved a Zenith
601 for flight training. And that is true! They are doing flight training at
Bryce Mountain Resort, the inn is 125 a night. 10 hours with instructor is
$1200 smackers and a 5 hour block will only run you $650....

Got any EAA Oshkosh memorabilia? by
Jay Honeck
In the next few weeks we'll be opening our 16th aviation theme suite
(the "Apollo Suite" -- all 1960s NASA moon flight stuff -- with many
thanks to this group's own Jim Weir) -- and the next one will be our
"Oshkosh Suite" -- one that will be near and dear to EAA member's
hearts, I'm sure!
We're...

Cirrus Killer? Cessna just doesn't get it... by
ET
Reading Avwebs latest addition (avweb.com) I'm reading all about how
Cessna is developing (very hush hush) their "cirrus killer", new high
performance 4 place single. They are being very hush hush about the
whole thing, except for one point; the new design will be a high
wing....
Without debating...

Lightspeed Recommendations Wanted by
Lakeview Bill
In examining the Lightspeed lineup, it seems to be a classic case of "for
only $30 more you get this"; pretty soon you're up to some serious money.
So, which of their ANR units provides the most bang for the buck?
Which models would you recommend for flights of less than two hours behind...

Sudden Flat Tire by
Kevin Kubiak
Strange thing happened to me earlier this week (monday).
I flew from home base at KUGN to KDBQ with a friend
for a quick stop and then we were planning to fly up the Mississippi
to look for some fall colors.
Had a nice clear day with light winds. So we land at DBQ, I taxi over to the
FBO for a...

Comments on FAA NPRM urgently needed by
[email protected]
As you are probably aware, the FAA has issued a Notice of Proposed
Rules Making seeking to make the temporary ADIZ around Washington, DC
permanent. This action is so dangerous that AOPA has sent out a rare
National Pilot Alert to all members, asking us to submit comments
before the Nov 2 deadline,...

Airport lat/lon database by
Ron Garret
Anyone know where I can find a list of US airports and their lat/lon
positions? I know about the airnav site, but that only lets me get one
at a time. I need a list that I can feed into a database. (I only need
US airports with instrument approach procedures.)
Thanks,
rg

What Happened to Private Pilot Magazine? by
Marco Leon
www.privatepilotmag.com
The website indicates that the November 2005 issue is the last. Anyone know
the details? Were they bought by Plane & Pilot (website redirects you to
theirs)? If so, I hope the quality of P&Ps articles improve from the current
glorified survey articles. I thought Private...
