Flying with small kids by
Bill G
Anyone have any experience taking small children flying for the first
time?
Did the kids start screaming the minute the wheels left the pavement
or were they pretty calm?

meeting net.friends IRL by
Journeyman
Last weekend, we decided to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary,
by flying down to D.C. to see the still-new flight musueum. Very
worthwhile for anyone with any interest in aviation.
I pinged Ron & Margy and despite their busy schedule was able to get
together with them. For those paying...

Solo Round the World flyers by
Ernie Ganas
Here are the web sites of two guys from Northern California flying solo
around the world. One, Dean Stahr flying a C-182RG Turbo, turns 80 in Nov.
The youngster, Bill Randolph flying an RV-8, turns 77 this fall.
My wife and I have talked to Dean on his satellite phone twice

I Will Never Understand Wind by
Jay Honeck
Today, for the first time in weeks, dawned clear, cool, and calm. After a
VERY early spring (with temps in the 80s for over a week), we have
experienced extremely high winds and record COLD temps. In fact, we broke
the record here on both Sunday and Monday... (Take THAT all you "global
warming"...

Anyone know the official requirement for all those yellow tags that are
bulging out of the airframe log book? Do they need to be saved?

When to acknowledge ATC by
Andrew
ATC says "radar contact, 20 miles south of XYZ, proceed on course". Do
you acknowledge this transmission? How about when ATC says "altimeter
setting 2992" on your first contact after a handoff? Does this require
acknowledgement?
In the past, I've acknowledged such things if the controller was...

Goin' to Detroit by
Jimmy B.
Hey all, looks like I need to plan a flight to the Detroit area for a
family thing.
The actual function I'm attending is in Ypsilanti but everyone is
meeting at my sister's house which is in South Lyon.
So it looks like either New Hudson (Y47), Willow Run (YIP) or Pontiac
(PTK) are my choices for...

Rogue's Gallery Update -- Talk about diversity! by
Jay Honeck
Wow. When we started the Rogue's Gallery -- a webpage where aviation
newsgroup aficionados can post pictures of our aircraft, in an effort to get
to know one another better -- I had no idea this thing would eventually grow
to encompass 32 different makes of aircraft!
More amazingly, within those...

Fly a P51 Mustang? by
Michael 182
Something Dudley said in the Leaving Usenet thread got me thinking about
flying a P51. I found www.stallion51.com as an option. Does anyone have any
personal experience or know of any dual control Mustangs that offer a chance
to fly them?
Thanks,
Michael

NOTAM/TFR history by
Ekim
Does anyone have any idea if there is a searchable NOTAM/TFR history
online?
I'm trying to plan for a trip not far from where an air show will be
taking place. The NOTAM for this year's event is not published yet. For
preliminary planning purposes, I'd like to see how big of an area was
TFR'ed...

Yak 52 in NJ by
Bob Chilcoat
Marco,
There used to be one at Somerset (SMQ), but IIRC it was for sale for a long
time and I haven't seen it for some time. ISTR that it moved to Sky Manor
or Alexandria. I'll ask around tomorrow and see if I can find out where it
went.

EWR! by

Got a chance to play with the big boys today. The Mid-Atlantic Aviation
Coalition, a PAC that tries to protect NJ Airports from local NIMBY's and
developers, had its annual meeting at the original terminal building
(Building 1) at Newark Airport this morning. The airport waived the landing
fee for...

OT-aviation buff carjacked in Michigan by
Mike in GR
Apparently an aviation buff was carjacked last night in Battle creek. When
I turned on channel 17, the police chief was reporting that the suspect
was in a vehicle bearing license plate "Flynfun".
Sad (and otherwise OT) news report from Wood Channel 8 reposted...
