East Hampton (Long Island, NY) airport weather? by
Peter R.
Yesterday I flew down to East Hampton (KHTO) airport for the first time.
With approach plates in front of me, I was preparing for my arrival when
NY Approach called to ask if I had the weather at HTO.
Scanning my Jeppesen approach plates a second time, I knew that there
was no AWOS/ASOS (it is an...

Canadians: Cost-sharing with passengers? by
Drew Hamilton
I have always been under the assuption that I am allowed to split rental costs
with my passengers, as long as I would have been going flying anyways, even
without them.
However, upon closer examination of the CARs I fear that I may be...

OSH - the chair thing by
Montblack
A little longish - sorry.
Oshkosh question from a first timer: Staying at the dorm, will have car
available - if needed.
I want to sit on a (2) regular stackable plastic deck chairs and watch
planes depart after the air show, etc - I heard this is the real show g.
Two chairs works good for me,...

There's an online store with the title Ace's Pilot Shop. Has anyone

Speed monitored by aircraft???? by
Jim Buckridge
I saw one of these signs along I-78 in NJ. Now, I find it
***REALLY*** hard to believe that this particular sign is true. The
highway is congested and with radar guns and all, monitoring speed by
aircraft (copter maybe?) seems expensive and unnecessary.
I know I've seen these signs elsewhere -...

RONs - NJ -> OSH by
Michael Bullock
I'm planning on taking my 4 & 6 year olds to their first Oshkosh.
However, I don't think they'll have the stamina or patience to make the
trip from my Central NJ location into OSH in one day. Probably would be
best to fly a few hours and then do some kid-friendly activity for the
rest of the...

OPEN LETTER TO JOURNALISTS by

What did you report on today?
The plane crash, unless a man bit a dog somewhere.
Of course they'll report on the plane crash because it's a more unusual
story. You would too if you had papers to peddle.
What do you want them to do, *not* report fatal aviation...

PPL question payment for flight by
john price
Well.. maybe not... If you fly 2 people someplace and drop them
off, that tends to be viewed a little differently than you and your
buddies flew someplace, hung out together, then flew back...
This operation sounds like an air-taxi service and that you just
might be "holding out" (i.e. advertising...

Aircars...don't they get it? by
Ted Huffmire
There couldn't be an aircar in every garage
unless we did away with the FAA medical.
What about all the people with a
"disqualifying" medical condition?
Seems like just about any medicine out
there is banned.
Probably public pressure would do away
with a medical cert for personal air travel.
Also,...

Dayton USAF museum by

Well, this is embaressing; I had posted a question about a month ago about
where to fly to in the Dayton area to go to the USAF museum and several of you
kind folks recommended one of the outlying less congested airports (plus some
others) with a good family-run (I think) FBO. Now that I want to...

Flight Schools in UK? by

I have the opportunity to spend some time in England in the next few weeks,

Anyone know of any flight schools in the vicinity of Preston, Huntingdon,
Lincoln, or Salisbury?
Thought I'd occupy my time in a constructive way and see a bit more of the

Jay,
The guy that I bought my Garmin 195 from also had a ControlVision setup

recommended the Garmin. He said that although the CV product had some nice
features, it's not as reliable and really is a mess in the cocpit. ...

Info and Links for WX in the Russian Far East Region by
Frode Berg
Hi!
You probably know this, but Russia charges quite a lot of money for ATC
service.
So, whenever you enter Russian airspace, I think you're charged 100 US per
100 km or something.
I may be way off, but I have considered flying to Russia, and found out it
cost several hundred dollars in ATC...
