Future of 100LL? by
Michael
Taylor wrote
You meant retarding the spark for gasoline with lower
anti-knock performance, not advancing it.
I meant dynamic control of the spark advance, such as is normal in
automotive engines. Spark advance refers to how far in advance of TDC
(top dead center) the spark...

Cessna 182T w. G-1000 pirep by
C J Campbell
OK, I know I said I would not get to fly this plane until tomorrow, but it
arrived early and so I took a flight. This is a new turbocharged Cessna
T182T.
For those that have not seen the 182T (either turbo or normal, introduced
last year), you might be a little startled the first time you take a...

Whelen Quartz Headlight? by
Jay Honeck
I'm looking through my new Chief catalog, and see that Whelen is now selling
a quartz landing light, part number WHL Q4509, for $74.50.
As many of know, GE sells a quartz landing light, part number GE Q4509, for
$25.00.
Anyone know if the Whelen light is something special? Does it last 5...

This article pretty much describes the differences between the two airplanes
and points up the issues that I have with the Cirrus.

Diamond DA-40 with G-1000 pirep by
C J Campbell
I got a demo flight in a Diamond DA-40 equipped with the Garmin G-1000 glass
cockpit this morning. We departed IFR from Tacoma Narrows and flew west for
some maneuvers. This plane was the second one out of the factory with the
G-1000. I had a difficult time maintaining my altitude; the altitude...

Garmin GNS-430 vs. CNX80 by
Mike Adams
What's the latest thinking on the GNS-430 vs. the CNX80? I'm planning a
panel upgrade and have read all the magazine articles, including the
comparison in Aviation Consumer, but it would be interesting to hear from
some actual users on how they compare. It seems the general impression is
that the...

Checking O-360-A4A Vernatherm by
Mike Noel
I decided to check the vernatherm on my Archer's engine because it is
running on the high end of the green during summer flights. I had already
checked the sending unit and guage and found it to be OK. I then removed a
1" hex cap from the top left of the oil filter adapter on the accessory
case. ...

convince the approach controller that Atlas wasn't a (dare I say it)

shape. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with the maintenance and
problem areas of an Aztec. I already know to plan on 4 times the $$ for
maintenance of a single, I'm looking for real life experiences both good...

Info on Buying a Cherokee 180 by
Brad
I'm selling my Grumman AA1A to purchase a 1963 Cherokee 180. Aside
from the usual prepurchase stuff, I'm wondering if there are any
special things to watch out for on early model Cherokees.
Thanks!

PA-32 on Experimental Certificate by

I just ran an FAA database check on a Cherokee Six that I'm interested
in, and it came back showing that the plane is on a Experimental
Certificate. The purpose is shown as 'Compliance with CFR / Research
and Development'. How, if at all, should this impact any purchasing
decision with respect to...

Analog tach replacement by
Mike Noel
I have suspected for a while that my old analog tach was lying to me. My
Archer's static RPM at take-off was measuring about 22k and the minimum spec
was 2325, but the plane seemed to have good cruise speed. When I pointed an
optical tach through the windshield I read a static RPM of 23.4K. ...

Trouble with Terra 230 Audio panel by
Mark
My partner and I own a 1967 Cherokee 140 with a Terra 230 Audio panel.
Currently we use COM2 as our main COM. Whenever we attempt to listen
only on COM1, COM2 drops to almost inaudible, with the plane running
it is inaudible. If you put COM1 on the speaker it is better, you can
still hear COM2 in...
