happy, I think? (OBS problem reprise) by
Snowbird
Well, for the cost of an hour or so and a $10 capacitor,
our avionics guy once more resurrected our KI 201C
So, we don't need to run out and buy a replacement.
I'm happy, I think? I mean, it's nice to spend $100
instead of $1000. OTOH, I suppose I was getting a bit
psyched at the notion of...

Overhaul time.... by
A Lieberman
Well, decided to make that move. I managed to get 2040 hours out of my
engine in my Sundowner, and now have another cylinder acting up (both
plugs getting "wet") at slow idle. I just had a cylinder put in (ate an
exhaust valve) last month, so instead of nickle and diming my expenses
away in this...

AI/DG Overhaul shops by
[email protected]
Hey all. I posted a week or so ago about an AI that had gone TU.
I'm figuring to do a complete vacuum system overhaul on my Cherokee and
was looking for suggestions on places to have gyros redone. I've talked
with Kelly instruments, and they seem to be relatively inexpensive and
have high...

Stolen Cessna 182 N2504R by
Paul
I was always surprised at how feeble and (seemingly) easy-to-break-in
light aircraft appear to be... And yet, aircraft theft seems to be a
(fortunately) rare occurrence (as far as I know.) I would guess this is
due to the relative ease by which aircraft can be tracked down (ATC,
etc.) Also, the...

Montague Folding Bikes by
Mark T. Mueller
Anyone have these? I am looking at the Mountain Bike version. I don't care
much for the components (since I typically "roll my own"), but Montague
refuses to answer my emails about just buying the frames so I can build a
decent bike around it...
SOOO, I am just interested in anyone's personal...

UPDATED - Overhaul time.... by
Dennis O'Connor
BTW, due to cross firing of the prefrontal lobes I kept calling the Unison
LASAR ignition system the SlickStart... Slick Start is their solid state
'shower of sparks' box that can be added to most any magneto system for
improved starting... About $300.. I have flown a plane with one and it
worked...

I am going to do it again! A Piper Seneca? by
Michelle P
Hi all,
Several of us have been renting twins are seriously looking into buying one.
We have been renting a Seminole but are looking at a Seneca. I
understand the Seneca I is to be avoided. The Seneca II is better and
the III is the best in the batch. Our budget appears to be no more than
200K,...

Composite aircraft evolution by
David Megginson
Jacques Virchaux writes:
In our country, temperatures are between -20°C (-4°F) and +35°C (95°F)
with some snow in winter. I know that composite are now more reliable
but someone told me that Katanas had problems under high temperature
(wings distortions).

Grimes Model A Nav light repair by
Grandpa B.
Greetings!
I have a '58 Champ undergoing a 'ground up' restoration after a serious
groundloop. One of the Nav lights was damaged when the wing tip scraped the
ground, and I'd like to repair it if possible. The lamp-holder is really the
only thing broken; the wires were torn out, and there's not...

1963 Cessna 182 by
Ray Andraka
Not a Cessna, but I updated my Cherokee Six panel to a T configuration at the
same time I updated the gyros (It had the original 1965 gyros) utilizing the
existing panel cutouts. As I recall, the cost over the new gyros was about 2
hours of additional shop time. The advantage of using the...

Why a static port? by
Paul Mennen
I can understand why pressurized aircraft need static ports,
but why do unpressurized airplanes have them? I wouldn't think
the pressure difference between the inside and the outside of
the airplane wouldn't differ by that much. (When I open the alternate
static port in my C185, the altimeter...

KI209a, glideslope = VNAV? by
Snowbird
OK, DH is leaning towards the "replace #2 OBS with something more
modern" option.
Which brings us to the question:
I know the KI-209a will accept input from a GPS.
Is that just for the left-right course deviation indicator, or
is it set up to accept input to the glideslope as well, for use

Lightspeed with Foggles question by
Rod Madsen
I just bought the Hood Lamb and had to send them back. They simply would
not clamp to my David Clark H10-13.4 which have a narrower than usual band.
To their credit, they acknowledge this problem with DC's and suggest
friction tape to increase the girth of the band. Didn't work...to
rinky-dink...

Low vacuum at idle by
Chad Lemmen
The service manual for my 1968 Cessna 320F says the vacuum regulators
should be set with the engines at 1700 RPM. If you want to set the right
regulator it says to idle the left engine and set power on the right
engine to 1700 RPM. At this power setting you should have 5" of suction
on the vacuum...

Did it -- bought the Cheetah by
Duane MacInnis
Alas...
I am now the proud owner of a 1978 Cheetah with 868 hours total time.
AA5A-0660. Starting the annual tomorrow. Maybe new cam & lifters. A
little XC & TLC this fall & winter, then next summer -- gone.
Jay -- save me a room (the Connie), and a beer. Maybe two.
Too cool.

Vertical-card vs whiskey compass by
Henry Bibb
The compass in my plane decided to spontaneously emit fluid all
over the glareshield the other day, so I'm looking at options for
replacement.
I've Googled for opinions on the vertical-card vs whiskey issue,
and came away no wiser - anybody care to comment from fairly
recent experience?
This is...
