MidWest Interior Shop Recommendations? by
Jay Honeck
Looking for a good shop within a few hours of Iowa City. The guy I've used
in the past (was in Maquoketa, now is supposedly in Clinton, IA) can't seem
to get his act together long enough to give me a quote.
Any suggestions? (Looking for leather seats, new padding, and new carpet.)

Twilight Zone origins by
Montblack
Fans thought Rod Serling invented the term "Twilight Zone." As a matter of
fact, so did Serling. He'd not heard anyone use it before, so he assumed
he'd created it. However, after the hit TV show debuted in 1959, Serling was
informed that Air Force pilots used the phrase to describe "a moment when...

F33A Bonanza Alternator Light by
Peter Shurman
Light comes on occasionally...extinguishes itself in 2 or 3 seconds.
Mechanic's inspection reveals nothing. Light has come on once or twice in
the past and required manual switch reset which worked. Any advice or
experience would be appreciated.

Cheap ANR headset suggestions? by
[email protected]
Hey all. I've been looking to upgrade my headset to an ANR and
figured I'd ask for advice. Let me give you a few tidbits that I've found
so far as a background:
- My intercom is a DC Isocom (Mono, single squelch, simple, adequate
quality, doesn't mix/match well brands of headsets)
- Tried a...

King versus Icom by
Paul
I have an older plane---1946. When it was time for a radio
upgrade I bought a solid USA made product--- a King KY97A.
I'm an A&P and was asked to install an Icom A200 in a friends
Cherokee. Surprise they're the same radio!!!
I thought the pin out and knob arrangement seemed familiar.
Sure enough...

Bendix AD 76-07-12 by
Jonathan Goodish
I have a Bendix starter switch installed in my PA-28-181, and as far as
I can tell it is original. The aircraft was built in 1977 so it's close
enough to the effective date of the AD to make me want to investigate
whether the switch is affected by the AD or not. I read the AD and I
cannot figure...

Where to find aircraft class info? by

You must work for the government if you think that you need a document to
determine whether an airplane is single or multi, land or sea.

Removeable tie down stakes - recommendations by
Maule Driver
Thanks for all the feedback to my 6/20 post where I asked for recommendations for portable tiedown stakes.
I decided to buy "The Claw" from Hunting Solutions in Pearl MS.681-932-5832. The set received a good review in the latest issue of Aviation Consumer. It seemed to address most of the...

That's life... by
Ross Richardson
Where else would one be happy to pay $65.00 for a used $15.00 part
because Cessna wants $275.00 for a new one. (a rheostat to dim the
instrument lights) If I had an experimental I could install that $15.00
part.

Cessna 340 Tie down versus Hangar by
endre
I am thinking about acquiring a 340. However, it is looking a little
difficult to get hangar space around for a while at least. How should
I think about tie down versus hangar in terms of additional
maintenance/risk etc? What experiences do other people have on this
topic? Also what can I do to...

'50s Cessna Door Handles by
Jim Weir
A couple of days ago, there was a thread in here about '59 C-175 door handles
being replaceable by '60 DeSoto or somesuch handles. I'd like to know where you
get 1960 automobile parts? It isn't like the junkyards are full of them, and
somebody somewhere has to make a universal replacement...

Early Bonanza or Apache? by
Brinks
We've been out shopping for an early model Bonanza, and in the process I
went and looked at an Apache that happened to be at the same airport as the
Bo I was looking at. The guy selling it was thinking that the Apache was
probably as inexpensive to own as the Bonanza. Here's his reasons:

N502TB insurance update. by

My son Austin soloed last Monday 7/7/03.
On his own; His money, his idea; Finish up stuff.
A single 172 missed the microburst onslaught at San Marcos.
His first ride was at 5 in a J3 with his uncle who still has that bird.
He flew my 172, N739CD, Lawton OK to Austin TX at 14 years old.

insurance companies/brokers for low-time pilots by
Ben Jackson
Can anyone recommend insurance companies or brokers that will work
with low time pilots interested in insuring hi-perf/complex airplanes?
I've talked to AOPA and Avemco, and coverage is available, so now I'm
just comparison shopping.
Scary how many aviation insurance brokers turned up by a Google...
