Lye as an aluminum cleaner? by
Michael Horowitz
I've taken my aileron apart and notice corrosion on the thin aluminum
parts, so I'm reading around about cleaning prior to alodining. I've
taken a stainless steel brush to the surface and removed most of the
corrosion, but it's really a PITA.
Someone suggested using lye as a cleaner. Anyone have...

Ultrasonic humidifier -- eight bucks! by
[email protected]
New-Surplus from American Science & Surplus, item #37146
I bought one of these for about $50 at a truck-stop near Needles some
years ago. Even with air-conditioning the single-digit humidity you
often encounter when crossing the desert can play hell with your throat
and eyes. The old-fashioned...

Headset conversion, again by
[email protected]
Hello all,
I have searched and read the posted info on converting a military low
impedance headset for use in GA aircraft.
Does anyone have a schematic or have they actually built the lo - hi
impedance transformer and mic amplifer? I hate buying stuff I know I
could build.
Current pricing on the...

Aircraft antennas by
ccwillwerth
Hi, I am about ready to cover my Cub type airframe, but need a place to
attach a com antenna. I was considering brazing a plate to the airframe so
that it would be just under the fabric. The antenna is the type that has a
ceramic insulator on the bottom of the antenna that insulates the...

Garmin 396 496 Data Connector Wiring Standard by
mikem
I am in the process of wiring a Garmin 496 into my 182, using the
Garmin supplied accessory data cable. After reading about all of the
problems with the 396 496 Data Cable connectors coming apart, I cut the
cable to about a foot, installed a male DB9 connector on the cable, and
the matching DB9...

Get them milk jugs out and head for the creek by
Roger (K8RI)
Home brewers...er builders looking for something to do.
http://apnews.excite.com/article/20061021/D8KT8UIG0.html
this sorta discredits the "don't drink the water" warning.
Grab those old plastic milk jugs and head down the creek for some
fortified water.
But, but... osssifer...I've had nothing...

Epic LT on a Trailer by
Kyle Boatright
Anyone know why a painted Epic fuselage, seemingly with engine installed,
would be on a flatbed trailer traveling North on I-285 near Atlanta?
My guess is that this fuselage was a display unit or mock-up, because the
fuselage appeared complete and finished, minus the horizontal stab and wings...

Certificated a/c, inexpensive epoxy primer, autobody? by
Michael Horowitz
I have a certificated a/c (rag and steel Tcraft). I'm considering the
Superflite I covering system.
Since the Superflite system apparently doesn't begin until the 'apply
the cloth' stage, I'm free to use any primer. I'd like to use an epoxy
primer since I've seen what condensation did to my...

Connecting hoses to pitot/static tubes by
Ernest Christley
What is the best way to secure plastic tubing to aluminum pitot tubes.
The plastic hose will slide over the aluminum tube, though it requires
quite a bit of push to get more than 1/2". Would a couple of spring
clamps work, or is something more significant called for?

fiberglass tapes by
Lou
Ok, I want to reinforce all my corners with fiberglass tape. Aircraft
Spruce sells a 50 yard 8.7 oz tape to do this job. Can anyone tell me
why I shouldn't use cut strips of my 1.4 oz cloth instead of this very
heavy tape?

REQUEST: 14V illumination for RT459A transponder? by
[email protected]
I have a RT459A transponder which was previously installed in a 28V
aircraft. The
internal illumination works, but is too dim at 14V.
Does anyone have the instructions which specify which (internal)
jumpers need to be moved to strap it so that works with a 14V dimmer?

I have been searching for a Camloc flush-mount panel latch for an oil access

October is when for a time at least the migger is replaced by the
jeweler's torch and the powered hacksaw gives way to a Gigli.
Circular cut-outs from flanging dies are rooted out of the junk-box,
chucked into the lathe and magically transformed into wheels of every
kind. Itty-bitty ball bearings...
