Need help with Rotax 912 radiator installation! by
Richard Lamb
The title pretty much says it all.
My good friend and neighbor, Leo, is having some cooling problems
on his Zodiac.
The first taxi tests proved the airplane handles well on the ground,
accellerates like a banshee, but the coolant and CHT temps peg in
only a few minutes.
The radiator is mounted...

Painting and air cooled motor? by
CitizenX
The discussion/disagreement on the painting of air cooled motors has come
up in a motorcycle discussion group and I am interested in knowing what the
pros and cons are.
IMHO the paint on the surface of an air cooled motor is making a barrier
between the metal and the air thus delaying the transfer...

Flight test update - endpoints and elbows by
nauga
A few more hours in the past few days.
I took the Bud Dake news as a wakeup call and
pulled the airplane apart and inspected everything
on Monday. Nothing scared me, so it went back together.
Oil is still dark, so I figured I'm getting blowby
somewhere (more on that in a sec). More than one...

amateur design consultant? by
Shin Gou
Could anyone give me a suggestion of good airplane design consultant
with a reasonable service charge for light/sport airplane conceptual
design? A professional design agency would be great, but I believe a
graduate student in aeronautical engineering should be able to help me
out.
I am not an...

Trim tab location by
Jay
I've noticed that a lot of aircraft put trim tabs on the trailing
edges of the normal movable control surfaces. Wouldn't this just
deflect the control surface to neutralize the forces and not affect
much change except drag? It seems like you'd want to put the trim tab
on the fixed part of the...

Space slingshot was: Space Elevator by
Keith Goodwin
Hi everyone.
This is an extremely interesting thread, and I have been reading avidly.
As a glider pilot, based in the U.K (not that my location makes the blindest
bit of difference), I am reasonably familiar with the process of using a
cable to get airborne, whether behind another aircraft (the...

Leading edge protection search by
Tim Hickey
I have a question, and I suspect that someone in this group can help
me.
I fly a Zenith CH-300 that has a wood prop. Actually, I think that it
may be the last prop ever made by the Great American Propeller Co.
This prop does not have any leading edge protection. Years ago I found
a product sold by...

Flying CH 601s? by

Dan Tappan
I am about to send for plans and rudder "starter" kit for the CH 601. I
would be very interested in talking to
anyone flying one. I am thinking about the 6 cyl. Jab for power. I am
interested mostly in how it fly's, what it is like in a xwind and...

Windsheild cleaning by
OSKI 3
I don't know how many folks I have talked to, do NOT know about.
Bounty paper towels (MICROWAVE/COOKING). I have used these for 15
years and have not had to replace a windshield yet. These towels are
specifically for Microwave use and have No metal recycled crap in them.
A lot better than trying...

Quirky LCD's on Ancient Trimble Flightmate Pro by
jls
What's causing the letters and characters to be incomplete, like for
instance, a "T" without the horizontal part or a "P" without its vertical
line?
It clears up and does great sometimes and I noticed it will sometimes clear
up after it has rested in a hot airplane for a while?
Yeah, it's an...

Prop balancing and assorted observations - long by
Dave Hyde
I've had a kind of unnerving vibration in my RV-4 since first
flight. I looked into harmonic dampers, but they're pretty
expensive, so I decided to give dynamic balancing a shot first.
$200 and 1 hour later, my engine runs *much* smoother. It
measured 0.3+ ips on the first run, so the guy weighed...

Ride from Milwaukee to OshKosh? by
News1
I'm in Dallas, considering flying (commercial) to Milwaukee for OshKosh.
I'd prefer not to rent a car myself. Could anyone give me a lift? I'd be
glad to buy gas for your car or airplane, and dinner or lunch if you'd like
it. I'd like to leave Milwaukee either later on Wednesday or early...

Plasma Reduces Jet Noise (Turbines?) by
sanman
Here's an article:
http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99996073
So if plasma reduces jet noise, then can it reduce turbine noise?
There are gyroplanes like the one made by Groen Bros, and also the old
Fairy, which used ramjets on the rotortips to boost rpm and lift
during takeoff, but...
