Radio Questions, Please by
Bob
Hello,
Have radio monitoring as a hobby.
Sr. Citizen now, so please put up with my dumb question a bit.
A bit confused over the modes that are used for normal analog voice
communications.
If anyone could comment on these, would be most appreciative:

LAX SFRA = chaos by
lv2fly
The LAX SFRA can be a very safe place to fly as long as you understand the required altitudes, headings, and the common reporting points and you fly these with precision.
The attitude of pilots transitioning through the SFRA seems to be... the busier the corridor the more points you report. ...

Federal statutes for legally drunk pilots by
anon
Could someone please clarify what the legal FEDERAL minimum a pilot
must blow to be charged with a crime? also, could someone please confirm
that state or police have no jurisdiction over this offense if the accused
does NOT live within the same state or city.
Thanks

I just graduated from high school and my dream job is to become a pilot. I have wanted to be a pilot since a very young age. I plan on attending my local community college this fall. They offer an aviation science program that is mainly a transfer program where you go for 2 years then transfer to a...

After watching some American football games recently
I thought of a good project for the FAA and NASA:
"Flight Characteristics of a Thrown Football
in Known Icing Conditions."

What does "bug speed" mean? by
Bill[_23_]
I was reading a CVR transcript (Eastern Airlines 242) and saw this
transmission:
"What’s our speed? Let’s see, what’s our weight? Get me a bug speed."
What is "bug speed"? A cursory search struck out. Thanks in advance -

usenet vs. private walled-gardens (was New European GA forum) by
Fritz Wuehler[_13_]
Attempts at moderation are usually futile because enough people
disagree with moderation decisions and begin to leave or argue with
moderators.
Moderators are the biggest problem with walled gardens. A good
moderator only blocks spam, not controversy. Alas, most moderators
censor opinions...
