FCC bans 121.5/243 ELTs by
brian whatcott
The title says it all - a 60 day notice of intended rule making from
FCC. Drawn up as ineptly as you have come to expect, but with its heart
in the right place.

Looking for Regular Charter Flight from San Jose to Auburn by
W[_3_]
I am looking for any regular charter flight that is traveling from the South
San Francisco Bay Area (Palo Alto or San Jose) to Auburn, California, or the
reverse direction, that has available seats to buy on either leg. I could
also work with a flight that terminates at the Lincoln airport just...

Yesterday American lost a co-pilot, today they lose an airplane door by
Flying the SCARY Skies
Maybe they can combine both this week's events and turn them into a
Lifetime movie or movie of the week or something.
The pics are LOL ... wonder how they're going to top this.

Co-pilot gets sick, stewardess helps land airplane by
Bob Moore
Well....For the past three days, I have tried to reply to the posts in this
thread only to have my posts disappear completely. Trying one more time.
To Hatunen...There is no such thing as an ATR (Airline Transport Rating) on
a Commercial Pilot Certificate any more and hasn't been for about the...

Hello? Ernie? Yeah, it's Mark by
Mark
Watching the U.S. Open at Pebblebeach
it occured to me that I played that course
countless times on my "Tiger Woods PGA
Tour" video game by EA sports and know all
the hills and hazards.
If only I could call Phil Mickelson and tell him
what to do. After all, there's no difference in
simulation and...

auto pilot v hand fly by
a[_3_]
A recent post regarding technology made me curious about something
The question for other pilots: on a 3 or 5 hour XC, do you let the
transistors do the work, or do you mostly fly the airplane from
"Clear" up to idle cut off?
.. I'm guessing that 80% of the time I'm doing a cross country...

Colored altimeter bugs by
Mxsmanic
The altimeter in my (sim) cockpit has three colored bugs, two in the shape of
arrows, diametrically opposed, in red and green, and one that is yellow and
kind of wedge shaped. I can move the bugs but they all move together.
What are these bugs for? The documentation doesn't seem to provide...

More on the Stearman flip at DCA by
Orval Fairbairn[_2_]
I got this from a friend:
My sources said that a Washington Post reporter was being carried and
admitted to accidentally pushing the brakes in order to leverage himself
up to see better during the landing. He didn't realize he was pushing
rudders or brakes. It's a good lesson for all of us who...

Glitch disables 10,000 military GPS receivers by

If the military itself can screw up enough to do this without even trying, you
can imagine what a determined adversary could do to civil aviation
deliberately:

Simulators by
birdog[_2_]
A bit of neophite comment on simulators.
Some years ago I bought a Microsoft simulator, played with it a while and
relegated it to a young friend. I'll say this - I wish I had this when I
first started chasing instruments for certification. The first major hurdle,
at least in my case, was...

local vs XC by
a[_3_]
I just looked over the last dozen pages of my logbook -- the only
flight listed as local was an unusual attitude recovery flight with me
under the hood and a buddy as a safety pilot. Every other one was from
one place to another so as to be able to do something at the 'other'
place (business, visit...

Fed: Planes flying in "commercial" airspace must get GPS by
Mxsmanic
See
http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2010-05-28-aircontrol28_ST_N.htm
I assume by "commercial" airspace they mean areas like Class A-B or A-C.
And by "GPS" they appear to mean not just GPS but ADS-B.
The article doesn't say which private aircraft will be expected to install
this...
