Best PDA or tablet soln for GPS & XM WX and gyro AI by
Paul Folbrecht
I decided awhile ago I'd like to get a PDA (preferred) or perhaps a small
tablet for in-cockpit GPS moving map and satellite weather and a backup,
emergency-only AI as well (not a simple GPS AI but a real solid-state gyro).
After days of research I can't seem to find a single system that...

1343 NM to the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center and back... by
Jay Honeck
It was to be just another fly-in. Only difference was, it was being held
700 miles away, under some of the most restrictive airspace in the world, at
the world's premier aviation museum, and it was by invitation only.
Nervous? Us? Nevah! :-)
When Margy Natalie invited us to fly into the...

Preflieght for first flight after annual by
Michael 182
I've done a number of these over the years, but prior to tomorrow's, I'm
thinking about how the preflight routine changes. I'll check all the screws
on all the inspection panels, pull off the engine cowlings and poke about,
looking for anything obviously loose. Check that the seats are on the...

Plane Watching by
KertDawg
Hello,
I'm looking for an airport in central North Carolina at which I can
watch airplanes and listen to them on my handheld scanner. I've done
this before in other parts of the country with some pretty good
results. For instance, at Allegheny County Airport (KAGC) near
Pittsburgh, PA, you can...

Things to put in the "remarks" section of the flight plan by
C. J. Clegg
When filing a flight plan (VFR or IFR), and you are carrying some
non-aviation-type backup means of communications such as an FRS/GMRS
radio or an amateur VHF radio, is it worth it to put in the "Remarks"
something like "Amateur 146.52 MHz, GMRS Channel 1"?
I'm sure that if you go down, the CAP or...

A New Air Traffic Control System On The Horizon by
Larry Dighera
Despite the lack of the mention of user fees in any of the information
I found while researching the Next Generation Air Transportation
System (NGATS), the aroma of user fees permeates this issue.

Handhelds? by
Robert Barker
The airport where I'm a student is pretty busy and I'm still getting used to
the high volume of radio traffic. I was wondering about getting a handheld
radio to listen to at work and at home and get used to the patter and that I
could also use later as a backup. I bought an I-COM IC-5 Sport but...

Observation by
LWG
I was coming back from Buffalo to Baltimore last night. I spent much of the
day on ADDS, checking weather. It was supposed to be good straight through.
Lots of green dots on the Java METAR display, and the TAFS were benign. Two
calls to FSS, one to the default 1800WXBRIEF, and one to the 866...

A+ for Mooney (M-18) Mite website by
Montblack
I've seen quite a few airplane web pages over the years. I have to say, this
Mooney (M-18) Mite site is one of the better ones I've seen. This site does
many, many, many things right, IMHO.
One very, very minor nit is ...the (very good) Photos/History page is one
level down, in the Articles link....
