PPL skills add-ons by
Richard Ogley
Hi Guys,
As a newly licenced GA PPL I was wondering what this group's views
were on how much general flying would be appropriate before I think
about training for any endorsements or ratings?
Obviously I need higher skills to get something like a night rating,
and would (say) 50 hrs of weekend...

June 4 AOPA Fly-In & ADIZ incursions by
[email protected]
Seeing as the big AOPA shindig is in Frederick, MD this weekend,
anybody wanna guess how many GA pilots bust the D.C. ADIZ? In spite of
AOPA's publishing the arrival procedures I'm thinking Saturday will be
a busy day for the Air Force...

Deke Slayton Airfest by
[email protected]
Anyone know if "fly-ins" pay regular admision for this airshow (or for
that matter ANY airshow).
I have just gotten current after several decades of not flying. Years
ago pilots arriving in their own plane were never charged admission.
I wonder it that's still true today??
Thanks
oop

First helicopter landing on Mt Everest by
Peter Duniho
I'm surprised there hasn't been any mention of this yet. IMHO, this isn't
getting nearly enough attention (here or in the media in general).

Kapalua airport, Maui ? by
Kevin Bailey
Does anyone know anything about Kapalua Airport (JHM), on the
island of Maui ? Both the Hawaiian website and MS Flight
Simulator mention it but the AOPA claims it doesn't exist.
Does it have an FBO for planes for rent ?
Yes, I know I could go to Kahului, but that's an hour drive
and Kapalua will...

Solution to DAFIF data going away? by

A friend's blog entry
(http://www.megginson.com/blogs/lahso/archives/2005/06/04/flying-databases/)
pointed me to Wikipedia's airport entries
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Airports), and COPA's "Places to
Fly" page (http://www.copanational.org/PlacesToFly/index.php). And I got
to thinking...

Another Intercept, but this time it's different by
Flyin'[email protected]
I am sure we are all getting tired of the constant topics about intercepts,
but I feel this one is a little different.
Now it appears they are intercepting small planes for getting close to
restricted airspace. That's right, not busting through the airspace, but
getting close to it. I know we...

Stents??? by
Paul Anton
On another group I monitor, the subject of stents came up. The are devices
placed in the arteries of the heart to open them up. The gist of the
conversation was, that those who had stents due to Coronary artery disease
were at risk at high altitudes. Complaints of shortness of breath, chest
pain,...

Light Sport Aircraft survey by
gilan
Do you own or are you planning to buy or build an aircraft that fits into
the Light Sport Aircraft rules? The airplane can be an older "factory"
certified airplane such as the Cub or Ercoupe, a new "factory" S-LSA or an
experimental that does or will comply with the LSA...

Class B busted...My problem or the controller's ? by
Antoņio
Today I flew into KBFI (Boeing field) which is class D and has
extentions that underlie the Class B that require close attention to
altitudes and headings so as to stay clear. Today the winds were
favoring 31L (and 31R) and I came in from the west on the Vashon
approach--the most common approach...

A Good Pilot Could Use a Card From YOU! by
Dudley Henriques
Jack Broughton, ex lead of the Thunderbirds and well known aviation writer
is recuperating from a heart attack. He is in a hospital in New York. The
prognosis I've been given is good.
I have kept the Thunderbird organization in the loop on this, and I'm
posting it here in the clear in the hope that...

Seattle Boeing and Museum of Flight PIREP by
Jay Honeck
So, we flew the executive mail tube (United) to SEA-TAC last Friday, for my
nephew's wedding.
Getting up at 2 AM to leave by 3 AM, to arrive at 4 AM (two hours before
flight-time) -- only to find the United ticket counter placarded "Opens at
5 AM" -- did NOT start the day well. Still, despite...

Long-weekend noise (trolls and real life) by

Notwithstanding the short shrift given to our "Memorial Weekend ruined"

.... the school with which I fly prohibits circuits on long weekends.
I am not exactly sure whether that is the School policy or the *Airport*
policy..... but in any case, it appears that someone...

vacation w/ Kids by
Robert M. Gary
My boys are seasoned Mooney travelers. This year I'm considering adding
a trip to either Victoria Island or Catalina Island. My boys are 9 and
10 so I'm not sure if either of these could actually be made
interesting. We've done so many trips, I'm having a harder time trying
new things. Last summer...

Airline Pilot for a day? by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I seem to remember a few years back there was a program run by one of
the airlines where for a fee of around $1500 or so you would go and
train for a weekend on a Boeing 737 and at the end you would actually
get to fly one for half an hour or so.
Does anyone know if that program still...
