My first aerobatic lesson by
Marco Rispoli
This was so much fun I decided to share the story ...
Marco walks to the aerobatic instructor and introduces himself. Marco is
already out
of his mind with terror. Rationality left the premises a long time ago.
The instructor has fangs and horns and a red tail and smells of ozone and
sulfur. He...

Comanche accident averted last evening by
[email protected]
Just another day of flying in the bay area yesterday - or so I thought.
It was past 7:45 pm. Beautiful evening sunset. Winds 330@12. No gusts.
No turbulence. I was on my third touch and go. A Comanche was inbound
and cleared to land on RWY31. I was cleared for the option (number two)
and requested...

AOPA shutting down their message board by
OtisWinslow
They announced they were shutting it down on Monday. Supposedly it's going
to reopen in about "4 to 6" weeks. In the mean time they say they're going
to "upgrade" it but they haven't decided what software because their
lawyers are looking at ways to tighten up the rules and protect them. This
came...

Failure #10 by
Capt.Doug
I was heading down island on Easter Sunday to do a little bone fishing,
cruising at 11,500' in a Navajo Chieftain with a 20 knot tailwind, just me
and some calypso music on the AM radio (ADF for you student pilots). The
autopilot was doing a fine job. Then the right engine hiccupped. It was a
small...

Sun N Fun Pireps? by
Jay Honeck
This is the first year since 2001 that we haven't attended, and I'm
experiencing withdrawal symptoms.
Anyone "live at the scene"? What's new there this year?

Cigarette Lighter Adapter- Cessna 172 by
TF
I attempted to plug in my portable GPS unit into a 2003 172 and ... I
couldn't. The "standard" cigarette adapter has been replaced with a smaller
something. I didn't have time to look too closely as to what the new outlet
is. The GPS was just a backup and I was just going locally .
Question....

Orlando Class Bravo by
Ehvee8or
Greetings all,
I'm a low-time private pilot in the Tampa Bay area, planning a trip
this weekend over to Cape Canaveral (KTIX - Spaceport Regional) to see
the shuttle sitting on the pad. I've flown through Tampa Class Bravo
before, and learned that approach control sends VFR traffic flying
east to...

Hello
I'm doing a little poll among you to know if in your pilot activities you
are using Linux applications, for flight planning, navigation reports, etc.
If you have a favorite application, tell me then i can update the
document "Linux Aviation HOWTO".

Reading back altimeter settings? by
Paul Tomblin
Does anybody have a good handle on when ATC wants you to read back
altimeter settings? On a single IFR flight on Tuesday, I encountered
several controllers who I'd check in with, and they'd give me an altimeter
setting, and that would be it, and 2 (both in Canada, BTW) whom when I
didn't read back...

Beech Sundowner/Sierra PIREP wanted by
Don Byrer
Saw an interesting article in Private Pilot mag about the Sierra.
Roomy & stable....sounds like my kind of plane.
Prices look decent; and the FG Sundowner even cheaper (and more
insurable for a 150-hour pilot than the RG Sierra)
Looking for something that can handle two large adults + baggage...

Citation by
Hilton
Hi,
Any (good) books on Citation I/II systems and/or how to fly it? Anyone
selling the 'manual'? Any other recommendations appreciated.
I'm *thinking* about doing a type-rating sometime during the next 12-18
months, and figured I could start looking at the plane now. BTW: I have the
King's and...

What it's all about by
Jay Honeck
Yesterday was one of those glorious early spring days that can only
happen in the Midwest. The air was crisp and dry, so that when you
stood in the sun you were warm, but a step into the shade required a
sweater. The wind sock was just flopping around, the horizon was razor
sharp, and the pattern...

No more partial checkrides. :( by
Robert M. Gary
I just called a local examiner to ask what will happen if the weather
isn't good enough to fly with my student tomorrow. He said that the
Sacramento FSDO recently told him that he is not allowed to begin a
checkride (i.e. do the oral) unless he believes there is a high
probability of finishing the...
