Speeds for best range or endurance don't depend on altitude by
John T Lowry
This note is about Vbr (speed for best range) and Vbe (speed for best
endurance) - as well as specific range SR (nm per pound of fuel) and
specific endurance SE (hr per pound of fuel) themselves - and how these
quantities depend on (fixed pitch propeller) airplane gross weight W and
(density)...

making the transition from renter to owner part 2 (long) by
Journeyman
The weather was a huge question mark for pretty much the entire flight
home. My plan A of course was to fly back the next day (Tuesday, the
30th). Plan B was to fly home commercially, leaving the airplane for
about a month until weather is more stable and I had less expected
schedule...

Forgot to close flight plan by
Paul Folbrecht
Ok, I did it today, first time ever, after ferrying my newly purchased
152 home. I realized about an hour after landing that I'd forgotten. I
called the FSS and they'd informed me that they'd called the tower who
had confirmed my landing and thus the plan had been closed. I felt like
a complete...

Buying an Aeronca Champ by
BJen
I'm planning to buy a 1946 7AC Champ with 2 partners. All
of us individually own one or more other aircraft. Anyone
have any recommendations for:
1) Things to inspect look closely at. AD's I need to be
aware of, etc.
2) A good partnership agreement I can look at
3) What insurance will cost.

Finally, some real solo IFR practice! by
Guy Elden Jr.
Well, after enduring the blisteringly cold, icy, snowy, and windy winter
we've had up here in the Northeast, I _finally_ managed to get in some real,
honest to goodness, solid IFR practice!
It's been a couple of months since my last real instrument flight, but
tonight, the conditions were finally...

Copalis Beach State Airport threatened? by
C J Campbell
Dave Krall in a note forwarded to the Pacific Northwest Flying forum says
that there is a movement afoot to close Copalis Beach State Airport. This
airport is worth extra effort to save it. Noise is not a legitimate issue;
as the web site notes the sound of wind and waves drowns out the sound...

Is this nuts, or what? by
Jay Honeck
From AvWeb:
"If you're planning on flying into Lakeland, Fla., for Sun 'n Fun, be on the
alert for large formation skydiving over Zephyrhills Airport between April
14 and April 18, sunrise to sunset. Zephyrhills (ZPH) is located 16 nautical
miles northwest of Lakeland, on Lakeland's 332-degree...

Recruiting students from current student by
BoDEAN
Has anyone used this approach? I was thinking of emailing all my
current students, asking them to spread the word about flying, and
help bring in more students to the airport. Not sure how I want to
word it, but I feel it might be a good way to get some new blood into
the airport.

hemispherical crusing rule by

got into a discussion at the old watering hole tonight about the base
altitude of the hemispherical cruising altitude( you know, 3000 agl). but
the question came up what do you do in mountainous terrain where the ground
elevation can change thousands of feet in just a few miles. how do...

making the transition from renter to owner part 1 (long) by
Journeyman
For one reason or another, I've been in lurk mode for the last six
months or so. I'm now going to make up for it with a particularly
long post. :-)
I've been increasingly frustrated with flying lately. In fact, I
didn't meet a single goal I set for myself last year. Came close to
getting the...
