Remember, it's our airport in jeopardy today -- but it might be yours
tomorrow.

Bayesian filtering of this group's riff raff. by
Tman
Kind of on topic, let me tell ya.
Anyone happen across a good Usenet filter that uses Bayesian filtering
or the similar, to filter out unwanted articles based upon a user's (or
a community's) preference.
For those that don't know, these are commonly used in email spam
filters. I think it would...

Read 'em & Weep -- Rec. Aviation Rogues Gallery is Coming Down by
Jay Honeck[_2_]
There once was a time, not long ago, when this group was filled with
hundreds of positive, upbeat, and interesting pilots and aviation
enthusiasts. It was a fascinating place, with the only shortfall being that
we couldn't SEE what each of us was/were flying.
Therefore, I came up with the idea...

Great day for flying by
Viperdoc[_5_]
Ceilings 300OVC, took off and was in the soup within just a few seconds,
mild turbulence through the climb, adjusting pitch, power, props, cowl
flaps, and comms while climbing turning, and talking to ATC. Decided to hand
fly rather than rely on the autopilot. (Wouldn't want to lose an engine at...

Tiger moth loses power on t/o, augers into a tree, none hurt. by
Tman
http://www.courant.com/community/news/en/hc-ewinplane0901.artsep01,0,5972072.story
Anyone know -- what speed does a T/M stall at? My guess is pretty slow,
say 30 kts.
This is exactly how I envision a crash into trees "ought to" happen, if
its gotta happen, in a slow-stalling speed craft, say a...

XM question for Garmin 396/496 owers by
Kyle Boatright
What are the weather overlay capabilities of these units? Can you overlay a
radar map on top of your airspace map? Across a route you are navigating?
The reason I ask is that the Bendix/King AV8OR I have does not have these
capabilities and I'm trying to get a better understanding of what...

Maintaining VFR altitudes when following N/S roads/rivers by
Mxsmanic
If you are following a road or river or other feature on the ground while
flying VFR, and that feature runs north/south but often veers off to one side
or the other, are you expected to change your altitude each time you move from
a heading of 0-179 to 180-359 or vice versa?

Back to basics? by
Ol Shy & Bashful
When is the last time you really read the legend on your sectional or
WAC? Are you up to speed on changes for the different charts and what
they tell you? Could you pass a current check flight right now for all
the ratings you hold or brag about?
