Cessna air vents by
Matt
Hello everyone. It's getting a little chilly around here now; I have seen
the "ventubes" that are being sold for $75 apiece. Has anyone simply taped
over the inlet in the wing root? I was thinking of giving this a try,
seeing that there is no real need for cold air ventilation at this time...

evaluating aircraft by
GE
Guys, thanks in advance for your help on this one. My airplane was lost in
Katrina (more on that later), and I am looking at buying a quarter share of
a local plane. I am trying to get a decent idea of the valuation of the
aircraft, which is a '79 Archer II. I have run the numbers on both...

KLN89 Display Problem by

Hello -
The top row of pixels are out in our KLN-89B. Can you change out the
displays on those like a KX-155, or is there more to it than that? TIA,

Cessna landing light switch by
[email protected]
I have a C-172B that has the dual landing lights in the wing. The first
position on the pull-out light switch turns on only the taxi light (at
least I assume it is for taxi as it is aimed so low) and the next
position turns on both (landing and taxi). Does anyone know if there is
a legal...

Audio panel observation/question by
Mike Noel
I have a Garmin SL30 as my nav/com1 and a KY97A as my com2. My audio panel
is a King something-or-another with (among others) MIC1, MIC2 and BOTH
buttons. MIC1 and MIC2 are mutually exclusive and the BOTH switch works
independently.
When BOTH is off, MIC1 causes transmission and reception on...

Pirep request: FlightPrep vs 396 by
Jim Burns
I've seen plenty of pireps on the Garmin 396, but is anybody using the
FlightPrep software with the Motion Computing tablet and XM
Weather/GPS/Electronic Flightbag options??
Also, is there any software/hardware combination when using a laptop or
tablet that can take advantage of the XM Radio...

Stop Making Sense by
Bret Ludwig
Light aircraft are not a business tool. There is _no such thing_ as a
rational purchase of a light airplane. It's a heinously expensive toy
that will likely be a financial disaster no matter what. Don't go 95%
broke buying an unfulfilling spam can. Buy what you want, which if you
have anything but...

That expensive Anniversary by
Michelle
It is my tenth anniversary owning an airplane. It has been an expensive one.
In the last year.... I have installed a new HSI(old one just kept
spinning), Re-built both magnetos, replaced my fuel pump, replaced the
Oil filter adapter, (that's everything on the accessory case!) replaced
my Attitude...

Lycoming O-360 ring gear by
[email protected]
Hey all. Now that my holiday travels are over, I'm planning to do some
maintenance to my Cherokee. The ring gear has gotten chewed up over time, and now
will sometimes not disengage while the starter is rolling it over. Worn/broken teeth,
etc. I was pretty sure it was a 122-tooth model, but...

Does anyone use a pre-oiler for their aircraft?
Any cherokee owners want to pass along good/bad experiences
with pre-oilers?
Thanks

IO540 baffle repair by
Jim Burns
Last week I found the baffle on our left engine's #6 cylinder had broken the
bracket off the bottom of the baffle. The bracket holds a long skinny
tension/stabilizer rod between the #6 cylinder baffle and the #2 cylinder
baffle.
From what I can tell, the bracket simply needs to be rivited back on...

Prop Indexing by
Mike Granby
Why are fixed-pitch props on PA-28s indexed to the 10-4 position from
the front?
a) To help hand propping?
b) To minimize vibration?
c) To improve performance?
My money is on (a) but others disagree.

The big question by
Prime
What I want to know is:
If I want to have an airshow at my hotel, do I need a 337 to fix the
plastic sign on my AOPA plane before or after I pay my taxes?

Resource for choosing a plane? by
Douglas Paterson
So, I've decided to go for my first airplane. As I get started looking for
"the" airplane, I'm hoping I can find some help here in narrowing my
choices. The more I look, the more overwhelmed I get. I'm starting to
think that finding & buying the damn thing will be anticlimactic--deciding
*what*...
