Hershey bar wing vs composite wing - how much drag? by
Nathan Young
I have a Cherokee 180, with the short hershey bar wing. While I love
the plane, I always wish it could go a bit faster, or use a bit less
fuel to get to my destination.
I have followed the composite homebuilding movement for many years,
and am amazed at the sleekness of a composite wing. The...

Who pays? by
Viperdoc[_4_]
First flight after annual, and the alternator light comes on over Lake
Michigan in IMC- left alternator belt thrown, which was replaced at the
annual. Never had any problems with electrics prior to this.
Replace belt, light comes on with application of power or electrical load.
Returned to...

Another who pays question by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Had a major radio install on my Baron- a Garmin 530W and 430W. As part of
the install the avionics shop moved the radar display.
On the trip home (the same trip where in IMC the alternator quit) I turned
the radar on, since there were some storms over my home airport as indicated
by the...

Chech the Radar indicators connector by
wise purchaser
What type of radar is it? The Bendix line of indicators use a round
'cannon' type connector on the back pull the indicator and see if
it's connected. Very simple use a 3 /32 allen wrench to unlock the
pawl slide it out and see if it's connected.

Electric trim by
Bruce McFadden
I have a 1968 PA32-260 which has a PET-1 electric trim. It works well. I
am ready to get rid of the bow-tie yokes in favor of new PMA'd yokes from
Avion or refurbished yokes from Wentworth.
My problem is the trim switch. The design of the current switch will not
fit a ram's horn style yoke. ...

Aircraft Insulation by
Clay
I am looking into aircraft insulation and saw some photos of a plane
with AVSOUND insulation. The material looked very neat.
I would like to obtain a sample of the material but have not been able
to locate a source.

Annual Off to a Good Start by
Jay Honeck
Although I am starting to resent the whole annual inspection process.
More on that in a minute.
All compressions on our O-540 are 78 or better out of 80, so that's
always a relief. The oil filter was clean (as always), and the exhaust
system is sound. Those are three big-ticket items off the list...

yet another annual story - day one by
Bob Noel
We started the annual on my cherokee 140 today (started with a trip around
the pattern).
I spent the day opening up the panels, etc, changing the oil filter
and such while the two mechanics spent most of their day having fun
putting a new fuel bladder in a 402.
Compression good (78, 78, 78,...

yet another annual story - day two by
Bob Noel
Almost done, a few things left.
During the annual, I'm having a new knots-2-U tail beacon installed.
(their website says 6.5 hours - ask them for some of what they
are smoking). This work took most of today. Otherwise we would
have finished today - the benefits of having a simple cherokee.
And...

Overlay/Panel Lighting? by
Mike Spera
I have a 74 Cherokee 140 that does not have any panel lighting other
than the red overhead. The 2 VOR/ILS indicators are internally lit as is
the VC compass and clock. These are all running off the one lone factory
dimmer. On full, the indicator lights will illuminate the cabin, so I
run them...

Glareshield Overhaul? by
Mike Spera
After 13 years since recovering, my Cherokee 140 glareshield vinyl has
developed a crack that has gotten pretty ugly.
I was happy with the original (when the covering was new). I liked the
fact that it was solid and could be grabbed as a handhold.
I understand that these things have screws...

Aztec extended baggage compartment STC by
Jim Burns[_2_]
A good friend of mine and fellow Aztec owner recently received final
approval on a STC that he's been working on for several years.
The STC allows you to enclose a portion of the Aztec's tail to create an
extended rear baggage compartment into the tail of the Aztec.
I've seen this alteration as...
