Short Hops Lately by
Larry
For the past year or so I've been doing more 30-45 minute flights
rather than cross country pursuits for several usual reasons. I have a
0200 Continental... fellow at the airport was telling me lately that
its better not to fly than such short flights due to water condensation
and premature wear...

Garmin 496-XM Radio-PS Engineering Intercom Follow up... by
Jay Honeck
To recap our problem, last week Tony (and his guys) at McCandless
Aviation in Waterloo, IA, had no luck connecting the XM radio (music)
output from my Garmin 496 to our PS Engineering PCD-7100 (a stereo CD
Player/4-place intercom that we've had in the panel since '02). They
found that connecting...

Filling with nitrogen by
scott moore
Hi,
I am considering purchase of a nitrogen fill system. I don't have power
at my tiedown, and filling the tires with a 12 volt portable compressor
is a pain due to having to park the car near the tire, move to the
other side, etc. I figgured a nice nitrogen tank system would give me
a power free...

Why so many 310s for sale? by
[email protected]
I've noticed quite a few Cessna 310s posted for sale recently on
ebaymotors and controller.com. This got me wondering if there is a
reason why there are so many on the market (beyond the obvious high
fuel and insurance costs for twins). Are 310s impacted by the spar ADs
that the bigger twin Cessnas...

stall strips ??? by
Tri-Pacer
I've noticed stall strips installed on a number of low wing aircraft.
However I've never noticed them installed on a high wing.
How come? Is there something inherent in the design of a high wing that
insures the stall starts at the wing root?
Or perhaps they're out there and I've just not...

MSFS question by

I have a new widescreen monitor. Is it possible in any of the recent
MS flightsim setups to park the radio stack off to the side instead of
on top of the Course Deviation Indicators?

Finding "Neutral" Position on Piper Elevator/Trim Tab by
[email protected]
I have a '79 Piper Warrior with a floor-mounted flap lever/trim wheel
and cover. The trim wheel has a metal needle pointing to a sticker on
the cover to show "neutral". The only reason this matters is that
setting the trim wheel/tab to neutral is part of the pre-flight
checklist.
The plastic...

Recording Hobbs by
BG
Does anyone use a PDA to record in a small spreadsheet the departure
airport, your destination airport, and the Hobbs & Tach readings when
you land? If so, what would be the brand and the main features of the
PDA? Thanks

FAR for owner oil change by
scott moore
Hi,
I recently lost my mechanic to an unfortunate air crash.
I have performed virtually all of the oil changes on my
aircraft for the last 7 years, under his supervision. Now
I am interested in taking over this task.
This group has several posts to the effect that it is
FAR legal to perform this...

Twins vs. Singles - comparisons by
[email protected]
With the current depressed market for twins, it is interesting to
compare something like an SR22 or C210 to a Cessna 310. You can afford
a lot of gas, insurance, and reserve for overhauls; with a $100K+
savings on the initial purchase price. Also, I'd be surprised if there
is much more depreciation...

Piper PA28 DVD? by
Marco Leon
Has anyone checked out the DVD titled "Wings In Focus Piper PA-28?" I
saw it in Aircraft Spruce's catalog and promptly put it on my Christmas
list. Wondering if I should be excited about it or not. From the
description, it looks pretty up to date.

Sandel 3308 by
dave
I asked about a problem I was having running the garmin 480 simulator
last week. Since then my choices have narrowed down to a Bonanza with a
Sandel 3308 and a Garmin 430. I'd prefer the 480 but for other reasons
this airplane is a better choice. I've been trying to buy a plane
already...

Adding this thing is a terrific, affordable mod that really cleans up
the cockpit. If you've got the panel space, I highly recommend it.

JPI install details (long) by

Long long story for the archives cut short: 60 hours logged and signed off

Everything works as advertised. For those who may contemplate this install,
read the Install manual AND the website FAQs several times. JPI's
documentation...

Any in-panel MP3 players like this? by
Jay Honeck
While shooting the breeze with the avionics techs today, I started to
sketch out the perfect aircraft music system.
Basically, we came up with an in-dash MP3 player that looks very much
like my daughter's portable MP3 player. It would consist of a little
display (to tell you what's playing), a...

LSA Class? by
Larry
Why is the FAA so supportive of this class of flying? Older pilots?
passenger allowed? more skill required in bad weather? less reliable
powerplants? no FAA medical exam? Less stringent certification of LSA?
I can only surmise that the FAA, EAA and MAYBE a need for grooming
future military pilots...
