I seldom post or visit this group any more. The group used to be
relevant and helpful to the aviation home builder with professional,
skilled advice and suggestions. But it seems to be degenerating into
spam posts and personal verbal contests, often with show-off,
insulting and foul language.

Structural Design vs. Copying by
durabol[_2_]
I was wondering lately how much are planes structurally designed or
how much do they follow standard construction techniques (copying)
developed for light aircraft?

Preliminary WIG Design: by
durabol[_2_]
-I'm planning on building a boat pulled WIG biplane with plans to
convert it to an engine powered monoplane.
-For the boat towed biplane the top wing will be a high lift airfoil
designed for a 25mph stall.
-The mono wing design will be designed for a 35mph stall with the
engine on the wing/shoulder...

70% P-38 by
cmyr
On another site (Emerauders.com) It was mentioned that a retired
Aero engineer in Texas had built a P-38, there were pics, but I was
unable to open them. It was all metal with a jump seat for his co-
builder (wife) Has anyone seen this aircraft?

scaling formulae by
jan olieslagers[_2_]
I seem to remember seeing formulae for scaling planes, but cannot find
them back. The one I do remember is "power required rises to the third
power of airspeed" - so to double the airspeed the engine power must go
times eight.
But there must be the same about weights and dimensions - if I double...

I haven't seen anything here yet, but it is with great regret that I
note the passing of Vicki Cruse who died piloting her Edge 240 at the

Skybolt Owner Buys the Farm by
brian whatcott
It was last Sunday morning. A local firefighter had brought out his
Steen Skybolt for joyrides for friends and family at Altus Quartz Mountain.
The line people saw the take off south, and minutes later at the
midfield position on downwind they saw the Skybolt in flames on the
ground. The...

Low Cost ELT by
brian whatcott
Ameriking has a dual Fx ELT around $150 with convenient commercial cells.
But international flights are calling for at least a survival 406 MHz
ELT, though US domestic operations are OK with the dual Fx ELTs, except
for new light aircraft....
Anyone know of an economy 406 ELT?

Fixing up the Airpath Compass. by
brian whatcott
The Airpath compass is meant to work in a fluid
filled chamber.
A bubble is an annoyance. A leak leaves you with a
trembling indicator that won't indicate a heading
with any reliability.
Gasket and fluid kits are not that high.
From Chief etc. $20-$30
If caught short, don't try making a...

I want a hoverboard/ultralight helicopter. by
speedevil
I was browsing my favourite chinese junk site, and came across
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15230
This is a 70mm diameter fan that takes 580W of power, and produces
1.1Kg of thrust, and weighs 116g.
Imagine a board around a meter round, with a large number - around 150
- of these...

Any Moldless Composite Designed Amphibians? by
durabol[_2_]
I was wondering if their are any moldless composite designed
amphibians? I am definitely not an aeronautical engineer and don't
want to try to design something. Some examples of this type of
construction a Long-EZ, Cozy, Quickie, Q-200, Vari-Eze, Velocity
I know their are some drawbacks to this...

Mini-Imp by
Curt Fennell
The Mini-Imp http://www.mini-imp.com/ looks like an interesting
project, but it has the scent of something too good to be true.
Does anyone know anything about them?
Thanks,
Curt

mention of Paul Lamar as being the major designer of it.
