Using wget to save dr.jack files without cookies by [email protected]
Greetings, I used to have a batch file set up on a previous computer which would download 6 images of soaring data each day from dr.jack's site. This worked but used the cookie info within wget to get access to future day data. My new computer is not playing nicely with cookies so I tried to use...

Grosse's glider flight into the night by David Reitter
New, honest video by Hans Werner Grosse on a (mistaken) night flight in West Australia, 1988 or 1989: Narration in German. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zkg9sZ0Moc There is another recent addition about a 1300k flight by Grosse. I watched and learned.

What 'hit count' means by son_of_flubber
Every time I open a thread to make a post, or read newly added posts, the 'hit count' is incremented by one. Say a thread continued for 10 days and new posts were made every day. If I opened the thread to read the new posts once a day, the hit count would be incremented by 10. Say there were...

Experimental Gliders in Club and Commercial Operator Use by [email protected]
Can anyone give me a quick rundown of how gliders certificated EXP in the U.S. can be used by clubs and commercial operators? Specifically looking at single seat gliders, but would not mind knowing about two-seaters as well. I'm sure I can ferret out the answers from the FARs, but figured I would...

New Gliderport by [email protected]
Doris and I have purchased a very desirable piece of land at the base of the ridge just south of Bluefield W.Virginia. This is almost exactly 500 kilometers from Ridge Soaring Gliderport, making it possible for pilots to declare a 500 km goal flight in even a low performance glider like a Schweizer...

Request for Presentations to Introduce Soaring to Others by [email protected]
I have been asked to present to the local EAA chapter this Friday for an hour and talk about soaring. I can think of worse assignments! :) Hopefully it can inspire a few of the pilots who attend to come over to the dark side and check out motorless flight. I know that for most of them hearing...

Superseded engines in self launchers by [email protected]
Hi all, I am looking at buying a self launcher in the near future. I am not clear about the issues around superseded engines. The DG-800A (and many others) have Rotax 535 (and 505) engines which I understand are no longer supported. Is this a real issue for owners or likely to become one as time...

F8's flarm antennas? by [email protected]
The centerfold picture of JS1 F8 in March '14 Soaring is certainly an outstanding picture. Great job Antonio Gemma More'! Never seen a flarm antennae that large...it looks like a miniature Washington monument. A better mouse trap? What's the 411? Wonder if anyone has had success mounting a flarm...

Stick grip loose - help how do I attach it properly? by Johan Pretorius
Hi all, Our club has a Single Astir CS Jeans - and the stick grip is getting looser by the day. What is the right way to attach it? I could use superglue, but then it's impossible to remove it ever again, e.g. to work on the PTT cable. Any ideas? Regards, Johan
