IFR w/pax under Single-Pilot/Single Aircraft 135 by
Bravo8500
Anybody know what the limitations are on flying IFR with passengers in
a single-engine under a single-pilot, single-aircraft part 135 cert?
Thanks for any info, I can't glean it from reading part 135.

Circle to land question by
A Lieberman
Last week, I was doing approaches in actual IMC, and returning back to MBO
(Madison, MS), I broke out right at minimum ceilings 4.8 miles DME from the
JAN VOR. Ceilings were just above 900 feet. Missed minimums are 5 DME an
900 feet ceilings (NOTAM raised it from 860 to 900).
The approach takes...

Cleared for an approach, then given a different altitude assignment by
Peter R.
Today I was practicing a GPS approach and had been cleared for the
approach with the normal, "Cessna XXX, cross ELESE at 3,000, cleared
GPS 15 approach."
A minute or so later the controllers switched positions and another one
took over that slice of airspace.
The new one came on frequency and...

Aircraft navigation four Course Radio Range Video! by

We have put up on you tube a Video of an actual Four course Radio

radio range system was the backbone navigation system used world wide

Airspeed Indicator Accuracy Tolerance by
O. Sami Saydjari
In my Cessna 421C, the pilot-side airspeed indicator reads 6 nts below
the co-pilot-side airspeed indicator. When I pointed this out to a
mechanic, he said that it was "within toleraance." He said it was
possible that one was 3 nts high and the other 3 nts low and so both
could be within...

What was controller implying?? by
Bill J
Yesterday I was on an IFR flight about 50 miles from destination. The
area was getting covered with TS, including my alternate 20 miles futher
west. Home base was 150 mi to the east. I realized I might have to
reverse course to escape, but did not have enough fuel to get home for sure.
So, the...

What do you do in the real world? by
Ron Garret
Last night I flew from SJC to VNY. To my astonishment I was cleared
vectors to SNS, then direct VNY (despite having filed a more standard
routing) at 9000 feet. I knew perfectly well that the routing was going
to change because I've done that route a zillion times, and indeed, near...

Safety pilot "flight time" by
kevmor
When logging safety pilot time, what do you put under the "duration of
flight" column? For example, say I'm flying with a friend who is
wearing a hood. We decided I'll be responsible for the flight before
hand. I can log PIC for the time the other person had the hood on, and
under the "total...

Unpublished GPS fixes on ILS approaches by
Evan Salant
With the Garmin 430W (and presumably the 530 as well) when one flies
certain approaches the Garmin has you fly to fixes that appear nowhere
on the published approach plate. For example, if you fly the ILS24
approach at ABE from STW (Stillwater) IAF, the Garmin will have you
fly from STW to D16.5...

50KHz Glideslope? by
VOR-DME
Who knows something about 50KHz spacing for glideslope receptors?
Traditionally we have 40 GS frequencies, with 150KHz spacing from
329.15MHz to 335 MHz. But I see European ILS's requiring "50KHz
Glideslope spacing". Anyone know what receptors do this? Or why we would
want to do this? 8.33...

flying into snow showers without deice by
Doug Carter
I'm presuming flying IFR in light snow in a Skylane RG with no deice
equipment other that the pitot heat is OK if the temp is low enough to
preclude sticking, perhaps -10c or less.
This comes up as I contemplate flying to Minneapolis early next week.
Just is case there could be other opinions...

RNAV vectors by
Dan Luke
Anybody ever get vectors to final for RNAV approaches?
Around here (Mobile. AL), I never hear it, although there are plenty of
ARNAVs with lower minimums than the VOR approaches at both airports. If you
ask ATC for one of the ARNAVs, they'll clear you to an IAF every time.
Is there something...

Jack and Jill go flying at night under part 91, with Jack sitting in the left

IR without actual IMC by

Anyone IR without having actually flown in IMC? My checkride is around the
corner and I've no actual IFR yet. I'm itching to experience it but the
damned weather isn't co-operating (seemed the same way with the PPL!).

the reviews focus on functions and navigation ease. I have not seen any
