Reverse NACA duct by
Chris W
Can someone tell me where I can find more information on the design of a
reverse NACA duct?

Control surface design question by
Chris W
I'm sure everyone here is familiar with the combination of the
horizontal stabilizer and elevator to make a stabilator. I think I have
even heard of the concept being used for a ruder. My question is has
anyone ever made a plane taking the concept all the way and made a
"wingeron"? My guess...

Path of an airplane in a 1G roll by
Chris W
Do we have any who is a math whiz here? I want to find a formula to
calculate the position of an airplane throughout a 1G roll. The reason
I'm doing this is so I can build a "roll track" for a remote control car
so the car will alway have a positive g force on it to keep it on the
track. Anyone...

Engine Desing by
Chris W
As most of you probably know the opposing cylinders on most engines are
slightly offset to allow for the piston connecting rods to attach to the
crank at different spots. I know of a few model airplane engines, where
instead of having the cylinders offset and having the connecting rods...

NACA duct ventrui by
Chris W
Here is why I was asking about the reverse NACA duct. I am thinking
that a simple venturi would be a great backup to an engine driven pump.
Naturally no one wants to add the drag that bolting a venturi tube on
the side of the plane would give. So I was trying to think of a way to
make it...

Leaning with EGT? by
Chris W
It is my understanding that the computers in cars use oxygen sensors in
the exhaust and not EGT to keep the mixture right. My question is why
not use oxygen sensors in airplanes? Is EGT easier to interpret when
it's a human instead of a computer controlling the mixture or is it just
that it's...

But seriously - new engine by
Chris Wells
Now that they're going to start enforcing the weight limit on Part 103, and since the Rotax 277 is no longer made, isn't it about time for a new engine/ultralight design?
We've got carbon fiber to build a lighter plane, and I'm sure technology has advanced enough to build a lightweight 4-stroke...

Experimentals and flight training by
Chris Wells
I'm building a Hummelbird, and I was hoping to use it towards my private pilot's license, but I've heard that I can't use an experimental for flight training. I looked through my FARAIM '97 and I can't find anything to verify that. Has anything changed regarding this since then? Can someone point...

Biplane design questions by
Chris Wells
A few questions, for those in the know:
Both of the radio-controlled biplanes I've owned were designed with the lower wing at a higher AOA, so that it stalled first. They also had the upper wing farther forward than the lower.
If the lower wing stalls, the CG will be a little on the aft side of...

Covering an ultralight wing with Monokote by
Chris Wells
I was wondering about the feasability of covering a wing on an ultralight with Monokote, which is normally used on R/C aircraft. If the tensile strength is too low, could you use 2 or more layers?

7/8 Nieuport 11 flying qualities? by
Chris Wells
I'm considering a Nieuport 11 ultralight, and I was wondering if anyone here has flown one, or heard anything about how they fly. Will they fly hands off, or do you constantly have to stay on top of things? Are they easy to ground-loop?

Fabric covering by
Chris Wells
I'm using thin polyster fabric on my Easy Riser, and the old fabric was sewn together at the leading edge. The trailing edge was just glued to the frame.
Can I simply glue the leading edge tubes to the fabric, as well as the trailing edge? If sewing is necessary, how do you get two 16' sections...

Bobcat/Supercat plans, info? by

Heath Parasol plans, 103 trimmable? by
Chris Wells
I visited Old Rheinbeck Aerodrome, and fell in love with the Heath Parasol hanging from the ceiling. The spec sheet says it weighs 260# empty, meaning a little trimming should bring it to 103 specs, if the stall speed is low enough. Are plans still available?
I understad the Pober Pixie is...

Help ! SMALL Radial engine by
Chris Wertman
Ok, here goes...
About 2 years ago I had a chance to buy some small radial engines at a
car show, there were perhaps 25-36 inches accross, I cant remeber, I
had a chance to buy em at $40 each and there were 10 or so in various
states of disrepair, but since I had spent all my money alloted by...
