Engine Failures per Million Hours by
[email protected]
I was wondering if anyone has ever found any hard data on the number of
engine failures per million flight hours.
I am specifically interested in the 0-300-D, the engine that I fly
now, and the 0-470 which I'm looking at buying....
Anything helps...
Thanks,

High wing to low wing converts...or, visa versa? by
Jack Allison
I find myself in the position of having just under 200 hours in Cessna
172s/152s (99% C-172 time), approximately 9 hours in an Archer, and in
the process of making an offer on an Arrow. So, I'm well on my way from
being a high wing to low wing convert. I'm wondering how many other
folks out there...

Lycoming 0-320 Exhaust studs working loose by
Mike Spera
I have had intermittent problems with 0-320 exhaust studs working loose,
usually with overhauled cylinders. I understand it if I have a stubborn
nut to remove for a gasket change and the stud comes out with it. I
figure that if I reuse that stud/nut again I am asking for it to work
back loose...

Ownership and passengers by
Roger Long
The FAA is looking for two things when considering the question of whether a
private pilot was carrying a passenger(s) legitimately. One is evidence
that the passenger is incidentally aboard on a flight that was going to take
place anyway. Second is that the pilot and passenger have a shared...

What is a "short field" for a PA28-181 by
Roy Page
I have been trying to determine the length of a runway that would be
considered a "short field" for my Archer II.
The two instructors that I work with on occasions disagree on the amount of
flaps to use for takeoff at gross weight.
One guy says my airfield with a 2,800ft runway is a "short field"...

Sold out by IFR by
Mike Rapoport
I used to subscribe to IFR until I realized that they offered a much better
rate to new subscribers than to existing ones. After realizing this, my
four year old decided to subscribe :-). Today he recieved a solicitation
from another aviation magazine. Obviously they sold his (and my) name...

Filling oxygen tanks by
Bruce McFadden
Santa's wife has decided that she would prefer that I fly with oxygen
even below 12.5K and especially at night. So I've been given a tank et
al. I was shocked today when I had it filled at Merucry Air. It is a
415 L size D tank. Because the pressure in their filling tanks were a
bit low, they...

Cherokee 140 Oil Temp Sending Unit by
Mike Spera
I am in a quest to troubleshoot an oil temp that has crept up a bit in the
last 100 hours or so. Checked all the baffling and"usual stuff". I was going
to check the accuracy of the gauge via testing.
2 things that I cannot find: the part number of the oil temp sending unit
and a supplier. This...

Cessna 150 Door Latch. by
brian whatcott
The exterior door latch paddle is spring loaded to
close - it opens in the "suicide" i.e. blow open direction.
The two coil springs holding the paddle closed were
made of regular steel, so they corrode and finally break.
Stainless springs are better.
It is a regular performance to remove the...

Replacing PA28 panel dimmer rheostat/position light switch by
Mike Noel
Anyone here know how to access and replace/repair the panel dimmer rheostat
in an Archer? It still controls the panel lights OK but does not switch on
the position lights. My best guess is I'll either have to be a
contortionist laying on my back under the instrument panel, or I may need to...

I want to buy a plane by year-end but they're not making it easy. by
T.Roger
I don't have my ticket yet -- and I'm really committed because I want to buy
my own plane to train and fly -- and I want to take advantage of the tax
write-off about to expire at year end.
I've been at this since August.
But, hell, they're not making it easy.
All I've asked of Cirrus, Piper and...

I've had two shops look at my DA40 and no luck. Two weeks ago I flew
pretty heavy IFR long x-c (Leesburg, VA to St Loius, MO) the plane sat
on the ramp in the rain overnight one night. Next morning the

Leaning Procedure for a Carbureted 182 by

Greeting to all;
I own a 1964 Cessna 182 with a Continental O-470-R25 engine. This is
equipped with an E.I. 6 pt EGT gauge. Typical cruise power setting is 20"
manifold pressure 2300 RPM. I seem to have a plug fouling issue.

cost of panel upgrade on bonanza by
soxinbox
I am getting ready to buy my first plane. I am considering an early 60s
bonanza or debonair. Some of these planes don't have a standard "six pack"
panel layout, and I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how much this
would cost to upgrade. I probably would update the radios at the same time,
but...

Hello everyone. I'm continuing my quest to buy the best deal in America

Another option I've looked at is purchasing a low price Cessna with an
engine that's past it's recommended time between major overhaul. Some of the
sellers I've spoken with are insistent that recomended times...
