Digital OAT by
Jim Burns
Does anybody in the group have a digital OAT indicator?
We've just put a new single piece windshield in our plane and moved the
standard OAT gauge to the pilot's side window. Now we've decided to put all
new 1/4" side windows in and rather than drilling a hole through a brand new
window, I'd like...

Call for flight department guide for employee pilots by
Jim Carter[_1_]
I need to propose a reinstatement of our company's policy or allowing employees to fly private aircraft on business. I have a copy of our old plan which was closed down because it was too hard to administer given the limited number of pilots that qualified and used it.
I'd appreciate those among...

Nose Strut O-Ring Was Bad... by
Jay Honeck
Last week, in -22 temperatures, our nose gear drooped all the way to
the stop. Later, we were able to put some down pressure on the
stabilator (in the hangar) and bring it back up a couple of inches,
but made plans to have our A&P look at it.
Yesterday, since he wasn't coming in the shop till...

Piper 6.00x6 Nose wheel and fork? by
mikem
I need some help with Piper part numbers. I'm looking for the
Piper Part numbers of the 6.00x6 nose wheel fork used on the
"heavier" Cherokees, Comanchees, etc.
Jay Honeck and Don Tuite sent reprints of the PA28 manual pages which
show only the 5.00x5 wheel and hardware. Thanks guys.
I have seen...

Flying Club Costs by
The Weiss Family
All,
We had an open house at our local airport here in Minden, NV (MEV) today.
It turns out there is a flying club based here that I didn't even know
about!
They have a late 60's 182 with a Pertesen conversion (260 HP, I think) and a
70's Grumman Tiger.
I think those are two great planes, but I...

Airtex Interior Refurbishment - Day 50 by
Mike Spera
Day 50 (Carpeting)
Once the seats were done and the wall kit was due to arrive soon, I
decided to go ahead with the carpeting. The Airtex guys insist the walls
are shipped “long”, so I should just butt the carpeting up against the
side wall aluminum. The wall kit will then fit on top of that,...

Selling my airplane by
Dan Luke
I've decided to sell '87D (anyone interested can see it on
rec.aviation.marketplace).
Whether I'll buy another airplane is uncertain, but right now I'm doubtful.
There are just too many negatives associated with owning an airplane in the
Mobile area -- principally hangar and mechanic problems. ...

PDA GPS software Which one?? by
Kevin Black
Hi,
Firstly I'm in Australia and VFR. I have a Garmin III Pilot, but am also
about to purchase an iPaq PDA. Rather than upgrade to a colour GARMIN
(296/396) at megabucks I thought I could get similar functionality using
the PDA. Costings seem to be PDA nil (it's a sunk cost I'm going to buy
it...

One step closer to owning an Arrow by
Jack Allison
My partners and I have a verbal offer on a '70 Arrow. We're working on
getting it down in writing but, so far, things look pretty good.
Biggest issue right now is getting the pre-buy scheduled and having SB
1006, the wing spar corrosion service bulletin, performed.
I'm planning to fly back to...

Kitplanes Columns by
Jim Weir
About a year ago, I posted that I just flat ran out of time to post my
Kitplanes columns for download at www.rstengineering.com/kitplanes.
I had three volunteers that said that they would take the raw data that I
generate for the column, refine it, and post it for download.
Three volunteers...

Buying a used home-built? by
Jay Honeck
It seems that there are some remarkable deals out there for 200 mph used
Glasairs, but I would hesitate to buy one simply because I wouldn't trust
the workmanship.
What's the consensus on this issue? Is this a valid fear, or -- as some
have told me -- does the workmanship on the average...

Thinking out loud by
Marco Rispoli
Ok ... I went to see a plane I could possibly buy at Central Jersey Airport.
Here's the general impression I got.
It's a nice plane, well maintained (for what I could see of it and I am far
from an expert).
Made generally a good impression on me.
It's a Grumman AA1A, 2 seater, red, fast and...

TIS (traffic information service) by
[email protected]
We have had TIS in three of the planes in our partnership for a while
now. I consider it a safety of flight issue. When it is working the
number of unseen planes around you it displays is amazing. I really
don't want to fly without it at this point. Unfortunately is seems
that the data is not...

wanted: hangar door tips by
Joa
Our EAA chapter had a 40' hangar door that split in the middle and
folded sideways (each half). The ends were hinged and the center had
a single roller that ran in a track above. The bottom was not
attached in any way and just hung. It was held closed and open with
large steel pins that dropped...

Bendix KT76C transponder requires major repair: Options? by
Peter R.
A friend just let me know that his relatively new (four year old) Bendix
King KT76C transponder failed the mode C biennial test.
When the unit was sent in for a $250 troubleshooting (Duncan, I believe,
not Honeywell) analysis, he was told that his unit required a $1,700 repair
to replace the...

Beer Served to Pilots in Iowa -- All Survive! by
Jay Honeck
Normally I wouldn't post about our own party, but since no one in attendance
will be able to post until after Oshkosh, I thought I might post a little
round up for those who couldn't make it:
a) Many beers were served. In fact, we had to buy more beer mid-way through
the evening. No injuries...
