A remarkable pic of the Jet Blue nose gear... by
Jay Honeck
See:
http://www.alexisparkinn.com/photogallery/Videos/JB_Nosewheel.jpg
Airbus may not know how to make a landing gear mechanism that works
reliably, but they sure do know how to make it TOUGH. It's hard to
imagine the stresses on that gear as the wheels ground themselves into
oblivion...

things to carry by
Gary Drescher
A pilot crashed on a NH mountain in fog yesterday. He survived, but his
17-year-old son did not. Rescuers were able to find him in part because he
was blowing a whistle. I just added one to my flight bag.

The Most Expensive Ironing Boards in the World... by
Jay Honeck
We received notification of a Ramada Inn that was selling everything to
the bare walls, in preparation for demolition. Although our hotel is
unique in many ways, we *all* use blow dryers, lamps, end tables --
and, yes, ironing boards -- so this seemed like a great opportunity to
find some real...

Cindy McCain Pilot? by
Larry Dighera
Last night on The Tonight Show, Cindy McCain mentioned that she would
be doing a lot of flying as part of husband John McCain's 1982
Congressional campaign, so she attended flight ground school in an
attempt to overcome her fear of flying. She said she then received
flight training, and earned her...

Lightspeed Headset Story-Wow by
Al Gilson
I have a Lightspeed 15XL ANR headset and I like it. It really cuts down
on the noise. However, when I pulled it out to go flying a couple of
weeks ago, I discivered that the headband was broken. I was depressed.
I have had it for about 18 months and I figured I was going to be
royally screwed...

report runway incursion non-towered airport? by
Joe Johnson
Me: 240 hr PP-ASEL, minding my own business, doing touch & goes at an
untowered field, and scrupulously calling my position in every leg of the
pattern.
The offender: pilot of a small Citation jet.
I saw the Citation taxiing toward the active as I was downwind. I watched
the plane carefully...

Compiled List of Aircraft-Accessible Aviation Museums by

WOW! I had no idea this thread would be so productive! Here is the list,
compiled from all of your posts. As you can see, some are more complete
than others. If anyone can add some of the missing information, please do
so!
For example, some people didn't post what STATE their suggested museum...

Investigators Say Student Pilots Should Be Flagged by
Gig 601XL Builder
Not IMHO a bad idea really. When I was training and flew to controlled
airspace for XC flights it was suggested that I mention I was a student and
they did seem to slow things down a little.
I can see how a uniform way of doing this might be helpful both in
controlled and uncontrolled airspace....

Rough Field Landings by
[email protected]
Here I am with the big stick again. I can't recall anyone discussing
rough area landings or hostile terrain landings in a long time. For
example, forced to land (no matter the reason-you supply one) and you
are headed into a corn field, or a rice paddy, or trees, or perhaps
mountain slopes. Well...

spoilers vs. ailerons by
[email protected]
There are two old Senecas at my airport with the Robertson STOL mod -
full span flaps w/spoilers in place of conventional ailerons. I've seen
one of them take off with a brutally short roll, and it went up as if
on an escalator. My question is, how would one of these land in a stiff
x-wind? Is the...

Sean Tucker Oracle Airshow by
Chris Colohan
I went out to the Wings Over Pittsburgh airshow yesterday, and I have
to say that the most impressive performance was the Sean Tucker Oracle
biplane act.
(The Thunderbirds were impressive too, but super-annoying
tackily-patriotic musical soundtrack really detracts from their act.
The Thunderbird...

Would you fly on this airline? by
Jay Honeck
KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Officials at Nepal's state-run airline have
sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god,
following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft, the
carrier said Tuesday.
I wonder what the Boeing service manual says about this?
