1956 Valiant crash at Southwick. by Chris McBrien
On Friday the 12th May 1956 at 1315 hours a Valiant 'V' Bomber number WP202 crashed into a railway embankment in Southwick, West Sussex. The cause was put as a rudder lock. The pilot, Sqn/Ldr. K. Orman, tried to put the a/c down in Southwick Recreation ground as it was the only wide open space...

Twin engine prop rotation? by Chris Wells
What are the aerodynamic implications of prop rotation on a twin? I was reading an article about the development of the P38, and apparently they changed the prop rotation from "inwards" to "outwards" - why? Is this a standard rotation on twin engine planes now?

1967 Lightning strike crash? by Chris Wells
I'm reading some articles on aircraft lightning strikes, and most mention an incident in 1967 when an airplane was brought down by lightning; however I can't find info on this crash. Can anyone tell me when & where this happened?

Is Moller at it again? by Chris Wells
There's video of a tethered "flying saucer" in flight, with a typically clueless anchorperson describing it. The company building it is in California, and Annie Anchor said they would only fly 10' off the ground, thereby sidestepping FAA clearance & licensing issues. :) I thought I saw the word...

Possibility of a collision with UAV? by Chris Wells
With an ever-increasing number of unmanned aerial vehicles aloft, it seems likely that a collision is inevitable, at least until machine vision and avoidance systems are perfected...has it already happened? Are there any near misses on record?

P39 elevator & aileron construction? by Chris Wells
I recently visited the Niagara Aerospace Museum (thumbs up!) and got the opportunity to see a P39 Airacobra close-up...and I noticed that the elevator and ailerons (& possibly the rudder as well) were fabric-covered, instead of aluminum like the rest of the plane. Is this the way they were built?

Good flying fiction? by Chris Wells
I've been looking for some good flying stories. A friend recommended "The Reluctant Messiah", which I've yet to find. Can someone recommend more, preferably written by a pilot & for pilots?

Accident? on 8-27-92 by Chris Wells
I've got a video clip which shows a large, twin-engined plane, possible a cargo plane, taking off and immediately looping and crashing. It's taken from someone standing right at the edge of the runway, and the whole thing appears to happen right in front of the cameraman. It looks possibly faked....

Your opinions on my aviation art site please by Christopher Drew
I have been running www.chapmanstudioonline.com for almost a year. We have had nothing but praise from our customers but, frankly, we haven't had as many customers as we would like! A low budget (this is a fun project not a business) has made advertising hard/impossible which doesn't help but we...

Flight Levels??? by Chuck Dreier
I just returned on a flight from San Juan to Orlando and our flight level was 300, including a portion over the mainland. Since then I've been listening to my aircraft radio and routinely hear flights assigned FL320, 340, etc.. It was always 2000 feet separation with levels 290, 310, 330, 350,...

Flying in Jamaica by [email protected]
Going to Negril, Jamaica from 8/15 - 8/22. Looking for an FBO where I can rent a piston single to fly around the island. Understand it will probably have to be with an instructor. I've done a Google search and emailed TimAir. Called Wings Jamaica but their number is no longer good. Any...
