Dangerous Cessna evacuates govt again by Paul kgyy
True to the rugged pioneer spirit of our great country, DC cowered for cover again as a Cessna violated the no-fly zone. Fighter jets were scrambled to deal with this imminent threat to the security of our nation.

Student Drop-Out Rates...why? by Jay Honeck
In another thread, we have been hashing out whether some pilots in training quit flying because of a hair-raising event, such as a brush with disaster, or getting lost. Few ex-students seem to admit that this was a reason for quitting, but the drop-out rate seems to be far higher than it should...

limit of trim = limit of travel? by Mxsmanic
Are the limits of control surface movements produced by setting trim to its extremes also usually the absolute limits of travel for those surfaces, or is it usually possible to move them further with movement of the yoke? Or does this vary significantly from one aircraft design to another?

JFK by Big John
40 years ago today I was ferrying a F-89J from the Maine Air Guard at Bangor, ME to the Oregon Air Guard at Portland OR. Chugging along at 20K, keeping under the big jet stream blowing east, I was about 150 out of Oklahoma City, my next refueling stop, when ATC came up on frequency and announced...

About Stall Psychology and Pilots by Dudley Henriques[_2_]
I've been reading the interesting thread started by Rocky about stall vs the modern pilot. I'd like to offer some added comment on this subject as this exact issue is closely associated with the human factors research work I've done and am doing now on a continuing basis within the air show...

Common instruments on small aircraft by Mxsmanic
Are small GA aircraft often equipped with things like autopilots, GPS units, and EHSI displays? What about a radar altimeter? The Baron I fly in simulation is equipped with these (as is the A36), but fancy instruments are free in simulation, so I'm wondering how likely one is to have them in real...

How much longer? by Jay Honeck[_2_]
With Avgas topping five bucks a gallon, I find myself asking: How much more will it take before GA is completely unaffordable? At what price point will all the current "weekend pilots" be driven from the market? Example: While on our trip back from Florida a couple of weeks ago, we paid $5.20...

Kill File Bertie by Ross
I just created my first kill file for anything from "bertie". My in basket is so small now. While I think he is quite knowledgeable in aviation, it is the personality and attitude that is disturbing. -- Regards, Ross C-172F 180HP KSWI

Head orientation in turns--how is it taught for aviation? by Mxsmanic
When you make a coordinated turn in an aircraft, are you taught to let your head tilt with the bank angle of the aircraft, or are you taught to keep your head normal to the horizon?

How much fuel do you prefer to carry? by Mxsmanic
When you fly, how much fuel do you prefer to carry? Do you just load enough to meet the FARs? Do you like to add a fudge factor? If so, how much? Do you prefer to fly with full tanks irrespective of the length of the flight? Is it significantly more expensive to fly with the tanks topped off...

6 days, 16.5 hours of flying, 2500 miles, all VFR. The perfect escape from a brutal Iowa winter! Here are few PIREPS from the journey: - Thanks to great weather and a nice tailwind, I climbed to 5500 feet, leveled out -- and never changed course or altitude again till we touched down 4.8 hours...
