Real Pilots by
a[_3_]
I wonder how often real pilots open this list server, hoping that it
might once again be on topic? It's not worth checking more often than
weekly, and that interval is growing longer.
Well played, spammers.

Prince William got his RAF wings. by
Larry Dighera
He's one of us now:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7339475.stm
Can you be an RAF pilot in 13 weeks?
It can take up to four years to fully train an RAF pilot, so how
did Prince William get his wings in under four months?
Prince William is never going to be an...

Why fly fast approaches? by
EDR
I did my BFR last month in a PA28-181. It is an airplane new to the
flying club I belong to and although I have more than 60 hours in type,
the owner requires anyone who desires to rent it, have an instructor
checkout.
Prior to the flight I calculated a weight and balance and appropriate
speeds...

Stupid Pilot Tricks - Insurance Co. Trying to Back Out by
Bob Chilcoat
Apparently, the insurance co of the pilot who lost his amphibious float
plane on landing (see "Stupid Pilot Tricks" and Followup a couple of weeks
ago) and parked it in a hangar with a Comanche already inside, is trying to
get out of paying anything since the pilot was on drugs. Not...

Most experienced CFI runs out of gas by
Robert M. Gary
The local news is reporting that a local CFI (with over 30,000 hours
of instruction giving since the early 1960's) ran out of gas just
short of the airport after picking up a P210 and flying back from
Texas to California. Boy, if it can happen to him, it can happen to
anyone. It will be interesting...

Accidents - correlation and causation? by
Dylan Smith
Seen in Avweb's AvFlash:
CRASH STATISTICS, FROM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
According to the AP's research, pilots older than 50 were involved in
55.8 percent of accidents over a five-year period even though they
constitute only 36.8 percent of certificated pilots. And, apparently,
the
older a pilot...

Speed monitored by aircraft???? by
Jim Buckridge
I saw one of these signs along I-78 in NJ. Now, I find it
***REALLY*** hard to believe that this particular sign is true. The
highway is congested and with radar guns and all, monitoring speed by
aircraft (copter maybe?) seems expensive and unnecessary.
I know I've seen these signs elsewhere -...

Division of duties on an airliner by
Mxsmanic
On large commercial airliners with required two-person crews, how are
duties usually divided between the captain and the first officer? Are
there specific rules, or are there simply standard conventions, or
does it vary by airline/pilot, or what? Who flies the airplane at
which time, and what...

Two television news helicopters collided Friday and crashed while covering a
police pursuit. Both helicopters went down in a park and were on fire. There
was no immediate word on the fate of those aboard.

Overly restrictive business flying requirements. by
Wily Wapiti
Hello.
I thought I'd bounce these off the group and see what people
think. These are the UniRegs at the University of Wyoming for flying
your own or rented plane on University business. I feel, as a
low-time private pilot that they are overly restrictive, but I thought
I'd see what the sage...
