GPS and relativity by
Everett M. Greene
According to an article in the November 2004 edition of
Scientific American, the GPS satellites' clocks have a
7 microsec per day effect due to relativistic motion
and a 45 microsec per day effect due to the lower
gravity in orbit. The two effects partially cancel, so
the net adjustment is 38...

WxWorx by
Wyatt Emmerich
After struggling with my EchoFlight Orbcom datalink, I gave up. Forty minute
nexrad data, when it worked at all, didn't help me much. Lo and behold, they
now have a Wxworx interface, which I just installed today. Within two
minutes I have all the weather data in the entire U.S. in high-res...

The FAA is expected to announce a major ILS contract award within the
next 90 days, according to agency insiders. As currently written, the
contract will call for the purchase and installation of as many as 615

Blakey Era Of Failure by

Blakey Era Of Failure
The FAA, fresh off the fiasco that is known by it's formal
name---the Blakey Era Of Failure--- is clinging to the last
lifeboat left from her titanic voyage. In this press
release, the Failed Aviation Administration crows that they
are going to require an "INITIAL" set...

For [email protected] by

It is apparently not possible to communicate with you directly, so let me
explain how I got the 1.4 miles of protected airspace on the non-maneuvering
side of procedure turn airspace, and apologize for being wrong...the
protected airspace is 4.0 miles wide, giving the pilot even less reason to
work...

Desktop Application With WAAS LPV Approaches? by
Will[_2_]
Is there any desktop application that runs as a GUI under Windows that would
give me a database of the newer WAAS GPS approaches (e.g., LNAV + V, LPV,
etc)? I do NOT need currency on this. A one time snapshot that I could
update maybe once a year would be fine. I definitely do not want...

Lindbergh Jr's Atlantic flight by
Frank Foss
I saw this again on Discovery Wings today, and I think I picked up on
the following:
The controller (tower?) says: "QNH one-zero-zero-eight"
This is the local altimeter setting in hPa (hecto Pascal)
Lindbergh replies: "three-zero-zero-eight"
Which would be the "normal" / US setting, in inches of...

DFAFIF airport data problems? by
Mitty
I recently got a tablet PC, HP TC1100, and a little bluetooth GPS receiver to go
with it. Rode in the back seat of an Arrow this afternoon and played for a
couple of hours with the APIC software. Lots of warts on APIC, one of which was
missing airports. I'm in the Minneapolis area and just west...

GPS / WxWorx Software by

I'm looking for opinions / stories / experiences about the various GPS/Wx
software packages that are available for Tablet PCs.
I have a Motion LS800 and a WxWorx receiver. But, I'm not sure I'm happy
with my current choice of software.

Getting to VFR on top from VFR? by

The other thread reminded me of an interesting situation I got into
on the way out of Victoria, BC. I had filed for a lower than optimal
altitude due to forecast icing at 9000. Once airborn I could see that
the cloud layer in question had tops around 9000, and I could climb on
top before I...

430 question by

I fly out of KHWO (N. Perry) in busy south florida. I just moved here and
started filing and flying out of here.
My 430 doesn't seem to have DP or Standard arrivals listed with HWO. It has
them for nearby FLL and MIA and OPA-Locka. Can I insert them into the flight
plan page manually ? What is...

differences in AT-SAT scores among protected groups
