Operations over water by Mxsmanic
Where in the regulations can I find the requirements for operations over water in light GA aircraft? I seem to recall there are restrictions and equipment requirements, but I can't find them. -- Transpose mxsmanic and gmail to reach me by e-mail.

People... by Jay Honeck
For those of you who exist in the clarified, rarified world of upper- echelon corporate life, or hang out with pilots all day, it's hard to remember the wide range of human behaviors that exist. I, too, once existed there, and clearly remember walking the halls of the Fortune 500 company, finding...

Dallas-Fort Worth TRACON Management Routinely Misclassified Operational Errors and Deviations as Pilot Errors by Larry Dighera
Are these the same ATC personnel with whom we entrust our lives in IMC? Very tacky. And apparently there's a history of this malfeasance at the Dallas-Fort Worth TRACON. If found guilty, what's it going to take to get these criminals terminated from any and all government service?

Rough Field Landings by [email protected]
Here I am with the big stick again. I can't recall anyone discussing rough area landings or hostile terrain landings in a long time. For example, forced to land (no matter the reason-you supply one) and you are headed into a corn field, or a rice paddy, or trees, or perhaps mountain slopes. Well...

American pilots charged in Amazon jetliner crash by Guy Elden Jr
This story just gets more and more bizarre... based on the evidence I've seen reported so far, it certainly sounds to me like the Brazilian air traffic control system itself is solely to blame for this accident. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/12/08/brazil.pilots.ap/index.html -- Guy

listening to ATC on United Airlines by Bucky
I'm not a pilot, just your typical passenger. I don't fly United often, so I just discovered that they put the ATC on the inflight audio. I was totally fascinated and want to learn some more. Is there a website that has some basic ATC protocols? Not some huge reference manual, just the common...

what exactly constitutes a troll? by Sylvain
sorry for the naive question, but what is all this fuss about Mxsmanic? may be am I missing something obvious, I must confess that I haven't read all his posts, but I am a bit surprised by the rather hostile reactions that he received; I mean, ok, he doesn't fly 'for real', and sometimes...

Flying a 172 with Autopilot? by VE5JL
Is there any one here flying a 172 using an autopilot? I think on longer flights (3+ hours) and autopilot would be an advantage, however there are some in the old school that think it is not necessary. I'd like some opinions. thx Joe

Multiengine Rating by [email protected]
Hi, i'm interested in the multiengine rating (land), VFR-add-on to my PP-ASEL. Any comments about the best training aircraft for these purpose ? (PA34 Seneca, Beech Duchess, PA44 Seminole, Diamond DA42, ..) There are big differences concerning the rating requirements. Some flight schools offer a...

O2 Concentrator instead of O2 tank by tom

Iowa City Airport in the News by John Galban
I read an article in the GA News last night about the Iowa City airport. Seems the airport struck a deal with Wal-Mart. They sold 22 acres of airport land to Wal-Mart for a Supercenter. The sale apparently pays off the airport's massive debt and allows airport revenue to now go towards airport...

Testing the Testing of Mogas by Jay Honeck
Plop-plop, fizz-fizz... :-) In a previous thread I outlined the new (vastly more convenient) "alka-seltzer method" of testing your mogas for both ethanol and water -- but (for those who missed it) here it is again: 1. Tap a few ounces of suspect gas into a cup 2. Drop 1/4 of an alka-seltzer...
