Antonov control cables by
John
I was at an airshow this summer and saw an Antonov AN-2 Colt. I have
always liked them since I saw the first one ever brought into the
country back in 1976. This time I noticed the rudder control cables.
The end of the cable at the rudder horns was wrapped around a thimble
but then things got...

W&B-Where do you Measure People Positions by
Paul Dow (Remove CAPS in address)
I'm helping a chapter member do the initial weight measurements on his
plane. I think we have everything except what point should be used for
the seat positions. I didn't see it addressed in the weight and balance
section of AC 43.13.
What point along the seat is considered the center of a...

Finding Time by
[email protected]
"Where do you find the time?"
That's one of the more common questions I'm asked. Probably the best
answer is that I don't watch TV. Oh, we've got one -- great big thing
the kids bought for us, mostly so they could watch the Bowl games when
they come over to visit during the holidays. We watch...

Bucking bar and vice by
mhorowit
New to riveting here.
Reading on basics show the impact on the manufactured head is
transmitted along the rivet and forces the bucking bar off the
bucktail. It then slams back, causing the rivet shaft to begin to
deform.
Because the bucking bar needs to move, does this mean it can not be
clamped...

Kitplanes blog shuts down by
Jim Logajan
That "experiment" didn't seem to find the lift its builders expected:
http://www.kitplanesmag.blogspot.com/
Too bad - not sure if it was a lack of traffic (inadequate marketing) or
simply too much of a drain of their finite time relative to what they
thought they thought they were gaining.

Autopilot Porpoises when Mike Keyed by
jls
Also instrument needles go crazy.
Aircraft is a Lancair with antenna hidden in the horizontal stab. How
'bout directing us to some reading material about how to stop it.
Our local avionics guy says we may have to live with it, or install
external antennas, which will dirty up a Lancair in a...

wing tank fuel guage by
D H
Hello all,
I'm building a mid wing airplane and looking for a clean fuel sight
gauge. I've tried a clear vertical fuel vent line inside the cockpit
for each tank without the desired results. I'm covering the top of the
tanks with Poly Fiber instead of Plexiglas so I can't do the light
access...

fiberglass tapes by
Lou
Ok, I want to reinforce all my corners with fiberglass tape. Aircraft
Spruce sells a 50 yard 8.7 oz tape to do this job. Can anyone tell me
why I shouldn't use cut strips of my 1.4 oz cloth instead of this very
heavy tape?

Rotax 2 cycle Oil mixture by
ULWA
Questions for the "people" "who" utilize the 2 cycle Rotax engine without
oil injection.
Looking for a good MO that you maybe using to keep fuel topped off for
moisture and yet the oil well
Blended with the fuel when the aircraft has sat for a short amount of time.
Of course with the ATV...

Storm scope suggestions by
B2431
I have seen lots of stormscopes on e-bay lately. Any recommendations for or
against any particular model ore manufacturer?

Sandblasting reference? by
Michael Horowitz
Just thinking into the future at the moment.
I know nothing about sandblasting except you can apparently use
different abrasive material i.e. glass beads, sand, nut shells (?)
An aircraft I'm looking at has some rust at the tail cone. If I
purchase it, I'd like to remove the rust and prime...

Signing off by
Greybeard
Probably permanently, SBC jacked the monthly up from $29 to $49, my
usage is declining to almost zero. Tied to the house, can't be gone
more than an hour at a time, and that's stretching it. If my
daughters trach plugs, I've got a very short time to either clear it
or get her to the hospital.
No...

Pocket protecters? by
Morgans
Here's a weird one. Anyone know if pocket protectors are still available,
and if so, where? Hopefully somewhere not involving mail order.
Seems strange, that I would think about something that so many have made fun
of, but I'm sick and tired of pencils and stuff falling out of my shirt
pocket,...

Trim tab location by
Jay
I've noticed that a lot of aircraft put trim tabs on the trailing
edges of the normal movable control surfaces. Wouldn't this just
deflect the control surface to neutralize the forces and not affect
much change except drag? It seems like you'd want to put the trim tab
on the fixed part of the...

FA EBAY: Evans Volksplane VP1 ( You won't find a nicer VP1) by
JR
There seems to be some jealousy and bitter bigots trying to bad mouth this
plane its ebay listing in addition to defaming me. This plane is priced to
sell and built professionally and has hundreds of hour flown off of it
safely. I refuse to have dialouge with any of these Keyboard Rangers...

FS : two Augusta gasoline engines by
John Bartley
Hello all,
These may be a bit heavy for an ultra-light, but I guess whoever has an
interest will know that better than I.
I have in my garage, two Augusta 42hp twin horizontal crankshaft and
cylinder gasoline engines in their factory crates. They were sold by
Augusta to the National Research...

Blasting and painting by
[email protected]
We had a cold front pass through Friday evening here in New England,
and the forecast was for cool abeit windy weather for Saturday, with
the cool remaining on Sunday but the wind diminishing somewhat. Great
weather for sandblasting, I thought.
Did I ever mention how much I hate sandblasting? ...
