Buying a plane versus renting by
RD
Just wondering if anyone has some experience on the above subject. I'm
looking at building up some time (500 hours or more) within the next couple
of years. My two options are to buy an older 172/Arrow etc or just to keep
renting which is very expensive.
If I can find a decent airplane, in the...

Outrageous City Hangar Rule by
Jon Woellhaf
Last week, my name finally rose to the top of the shade hangar list at South
Valley Regional Airport (U42) in West Jordan, Utah. U42 is a few miles south
of Salt Lake International (KSLC).
When we went to see the airport manager to sign the contract and get our
badges, he told us an interesting...

Piper Arrow Shoulder Belt Tensioner by
John T[_8_]
My partner and I are having a discussion about how the original pilot's
shoulder belt tensioner is supposed to work in our 1978 Arrow III.
Currently, it always applies tension, which bothers him a bit during
long flights. He thinks it should latch or ratchet so that once it
finds a position,...

mitchell autopilot by
dave
Hello, I have a 59 Bellanca Cruisemaster that has a Mitchell Executive
autopilot in it. To engage the autopilot, you push in a knob on the
left side of the panel just left of the vsi and below the ai. When
engaged it would roll left at about a 20 degree bank, so I adjusted
the autopilot trim knob...

Ben
Hello,
As a senior in high school, i was able to get my private pilot's
license on dec 31, 2003. i love flying(what pilot doesn't, right?)
but i'm looking for a cheaper way to build hours then renting. i was
just playing with an idea, and i wanted your responses. Would an

Pilot headset comparison - Lightspeed Zulu vs. Bose X by
Kevin Wessell
I have the Zulu and the Bose. I like my Bose but Zulu wins hands down.
Whereas, both have good noise reduction, Zulu is noticeably better in
blocking out the noise. The Zulu has the bluetooth that syncs with the
cel phone. Bose doesn't. Very handy when making a call from the ground
or low...

Looking for Lycoming SI 1278 by
Jim Burns
I'm looking for a copy of Lycoming's SI 1278, Starter Driver Lubrication
publication. I can't seem to find it on their website or goggling for it.
If any body would be able to post it, link it, email, or fax it to me, I'd
greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jim

Aztec Flap Tube AD and related Service Bulletin by
zatatime
Can anyone point me to a link for Piper Service Bulletin 1051B? It is
what the Aztec falp tube AD refers to for compliance (2003-09-18?). I
have not been able to find it on-line. I'm trying to help someone
figure out the best way to comply, but if I can't read it I can't
understand what is...

Anyone installed a landing light flasher? by
Mike Noel
I like the visibility of the flashing landing light...they really get your
attention. The Pulsar unit sold by Spruce for about $320 (single light,
mosfet, variable speed) is the only one I've seen advertised. They say 30
minute install for an under panel mount. They also say you simply need...

wise purchaser
Greetings!!!
I hope that I am not becomming a bother to the group but I have a
question:
I have my own airstrip. it's a 20 foot wide 1350 foot long crusher

What 2 seat, twin engine GA plane??? by
Charles Talleyrand
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association says that on the US
registry the average age of a twin engine piston power plane with
fewer than 4 seats is 32 years, and that this is not increasing.
My question is ... WHERE ARE THESE PLANES? I've never seen twin
piston engine plane with fewer than...

RFI by

Need some assistance from pilots in NW Arkansas, SW Missouri, and NE
Oklahoma. If you are flying around this area (Fayetteveille/Springdale),
listen, or if in contact with Razorback Approach, to 120.9. If you hear
a pinging sound in the radio (I hear it about every 57 seconds), send me
a message...

Good Used 4 Seaters by
Curt Fennell
Hi, Folks...
I've been recently researching aircraft that I might want to purchase
on a limited budget and I was wondering what the general consensus is
on inexpensive 4-seaters to own.
It seems to me that 4-seaters available in my price range are all
pretty old - Pacers, older 172s and Stinson...

Pondering G430W upgrade... by
Doug Vetter
All,
I'm still on the fence about doing the 430W upgrade. Money is tight as
always and I certainly haven't set the logbook on fire in the last couple
of years for various reasons. The upgrade is scheduled for late May and
I have the option of bailing on it without penalty, but at 50% off...

Backup vacuum pump system STC'ed for Cherokee 180 by
Chuck
Hi group,
Seems to be a lot of experience out on this list, so I thought I might
ask a question.
I have a Cherokee 180 that is IFR cert, but both A.I. and Turn
Coordinator are vacuum driven. With both driven by vacuum, a pump or
engine failure in IMC will leave you guessing if you're right side...

Arrow auto gear extension oddness by
Roy Smith
I was on a training flight a few days ago in a 180 HP Arrow. I was
demonstrating pitch stability. We were trimmed for straight and level
cruise (something like 23 inches and 2300 RPM at 3500 feet) when I
pushed us over into a dive, letting the airspeed climb well up into the
yellow arc.
Here's...

Leasehold hangars and content restrictions by

At my home airport, we have a new airport manager
who seems to be on a mission to eradicate anything
but aircraft from leasehold hangars. He claims to have
discovered FAA support for this position during his
"on the job" training -- he is not a pilot, and has no prior
aviation experience -- but he...

The Most Expensive Ironing Boards in the World... by
Jay Honeck
We received notification of a Ramada Inn that was selling everything to
the bare walls, in preparation for demolition. Although our hotel is
unique in many ways, we *all* use blow dryers, lamps, end tables --
and, yes, ironing boards -- so this seemed like a great opportunity to
find some real...
