Pegasus life limit by 01-- Zero One
I understand that it is not automatic. that you would have to do the paperwork, inspections, approvals, etc. But how do people make alterations to their Standard certification gliders? If I want to add winglets to my LS-3a, you are saying that it cannot be done (legally, of course)? Confused,

OLC max altitude self censorship by [email protected]
I soar for fun, usually alone when normal people are working or doing some other socially responsible activity.Â* XCSoar or a (GPS-based) flywithCE position recorder is all I need for uploading .igc files to OLC. On a warm/hot day over the Rocky Mountains, it's common to see 17,900' MSL on my...

Fear of flying cross country by 126Driver
I would like to fly more cross country flights but have to admit I usually come up with a list of excuses for not going on any particular day. The weather is never good enough, or I have a dinner engagement, or my battery seems low, or something. Some of this is a general concern about personal...

BGA Instructor Requirements by 126Driver
The BGA instructor qualifications require candidates to have cross country gliding experience. Is the Silver C satisfactory for all instructor levels, or do some require more testing cross country experience. Instructors in the USA are not required to have any cross country training or experience....

Soaring Tech - November Soaring by 126Driver
Looks like a blatant Craggy Aero advertisement. Any type of hard or soft compensation involved in this? Inquiring minds want to know. Jim Smyth

Open Cirrus Gear Door bungees by 150flivver
I need help in figuring out where the bungees for the gear doors on an Open Cirrus get hooked onto the landing gear. There are two bungees on each gear door that close the doors when the gear is retracted. A picture would be highly appreciated.

Replacing TOST release at 10K activations by 150flivver
Those of you with TOST hooks, how do you track the number of times the release is activated? As I understand it, the mechanism has to be rebuilt when it's been exercised 10,000 times due to the main spring getting worn out.

Max Gross Weight Question by 150flivver
Our glider has two max takeoff weights, one with water ballast and one with only pilot (134 lb difference). I just weighed the glider and the empty weight subtracted from the max takeoff weight (no water ballast) limits the useful load to 225. There's still some room to play with for the forward...

tow plane 100 hour inspections by 150flivver
Are tow planes required to have a current 100 hour inspection? Does it matter if it's a club or a commercial operation operating the tow plane? I thought I knew the answer but just came home after a knock down drag out "discussion" with our A&Ps.

Has anyone else noticed that it takes several days for posts to show up in the group? As I write this on 5 August, the latest posts are dated 1 August. This is a relatively new phenomenon as previously posts were showing up very soon after being written.

Commercial vs Private, towing by 150flivver
I seem to recall being told the FAA had exempted towing gliders from the need for a commercial license as long as no monetary compensation is received by the private pilot tow pilot. Is this still true or is flight time alone considered compensation as it is in the rest of the powered flight realm?

Tow Pilot Currency by 150flivver
Is it true a PPL tow pilot needs to fly and log an endorsement with a current and qualified tow pilot every 12 months (three flights) to be current? I've read 61.69 and that's what it seems to say.

Pawnee 150HP engine upgrade by 150flivver
Has anyone seen a 150hp Pawnee (PA-25) get upgraded with a bigger engine? Our soaring club has the opportunity of acquiring a 150hp Pawnee (donated by a member) but we would only do so if it were possible to upgrade the engine so it could be used as a towplane. I did a cursory search on the FAA...

Max Tow Weight and Rope Strength by 150flivver
Suppose your tow plane has a placard that says "Max Glider or Banner Weight: 1000 lbs." You are going to tow a glider with a max gross weight of 1000 pounds. Are you supposed to limit the tensile strength of the tow rope used to 1000 lbs? The regulation specifies that the tow rope should be no...
