ROP masking of engine problems by
Roger Long
Word was just getting around about a year ago that it is possible to run
some carbureted engines lean of peak. It was discovered that using carb heat
would improve the mixture distribution.
I had a lot of time early in the year to look into this because our O320
H2AD was apart due to premature...

C-182 or C-1820RG, or C-210.... by
[email protected]
I'm thinking of buying a 182 or 182 RG.
I like cessnas and the 182 is such an honest airplane it's hard to beat.
I'd just like it to be a bit faster.
If all of the speed mods are done to a normal C-182 , Good wheel pants, speed fairings, gap seals etc.....
how fast is it?
For comparision how...

Tail Wheel Training by
Jim CRQ
Could someone give a brief outline of what is involved in getting a
tail wheel endorsement.
I'm interested in upgrading my skills and would like to know what type
of training is involved. I suspect its mostly landing and taxing.
Also how long did it take to master the tail wheel...

cost to install engine analyzer (4 cyl)? by
dlevy
Anyone had a 4 cylinder engine analyzer installed lately? I'm thinking
about an EDM-700 on a Lycoming O-320-E2C in a Beech Musketeer and was
wondering about install costs.

2 seaters by
Marco Rispoli
In my quest to purchase an aircraft I came to the conclusion that a 2 seater
could fit my mission parameters AND my budget.
I can afford:
Beech Skipper (goes between 25-35 grands age around 20+)
Mooney M10 (same as the skipper ... but it's older age around 30+)
Piper Tomahawk (same as the...

Rubber fuel cells by
Mike Rapoport
I have a Helio Courier with four fuel cells holding 30 gallons each. My
typical flight uses ~35 gallons so I would like to leave the outer (aux)
tanks empty most of the time. I understand that leaving them empty will
reduce their life expectancy. How much should I expect the life expectancy
to...

Landing lights, incandescent, halogen and Xenon HID by
The Visitor
I have finally got my wing tips painted and on my Seneca, they have the
hid lights in them. I had the Piper wingtip recognition lights before,
35 watters, not good enough to show a light in daylight.
My attention is now turning towards my actual landing lights. These are
located on the nosegear...

Mixture--science vs witchcraft? by
Douglas Paterson
Still getting to know my new baby (1990 TB-20, normally aspirated 250hp
Lycoming IO-540). I imagine my question here must apply to most non-turbo,
non-FADEC pistons (though I gather there's some sort of altitude compensator
on some airplanes' engines?). I live in Colorado, which means routine...

Pirep on replacing interior plastic parts by
[email protected]
A recent post bemoaned the high cost of replacement interior plastic parts
from the original manufacturer (in this case, Cessna). I suggested that
parts of this type are available, often at lower cost, from PMA sources.
This led to a discussion of relative merits of original vs. PMA,...

Pre-purchase (how to) by
Steven Barnes
2 friends & I are starting to look at Cherokee 180's to buy. We're in a
flying club, but want our own plane. My biggest question at this point is
how to arrange pre-purchase inspections. Especially when the plane is far
away from our home base (KSPI). Is there a resource somewhere where we can
look...

OSH Sleeping by

OSH First-Timer (hopefully!) here. Assuming I can get the plane out of

I'm curious about lodging. I snagged a room at the Super 8 on the field.
Outrageous prices, of course, and I also wonder if I'm missing an essential
part of the experience by not...

Stupid question about autogas by
Paul Folbrecht
If I buy a 152 getting the autogas STC appeals to me a lot for the
obvious reason (economy).
What I'm wondering about is exactly how the pilots that are running
autogas are getting it to the airport. I can't imagine the typical
answer is much different than "carting it there in cans" but even a...

know my airplane real well. Last week, when I looked at my compass, the little
airplane
that should point up was about 30...

Spark plug question: Massive electrode or fine wire? by
Peter R.
Google shows that this question last appeared here in 2001. Therefore, I
wanted to pose it again in the event there might be more anecdotal data
since then.
Are there benefits to replacing massive electrode spark plugs with fine
wire spark plugs?
Background: I have a turbo-normalized IO-520 in...
