Airplane's compass mag dev by
George Las
Morning
I have to preface this post by telling you that I am not a pilot, nor will ever be due to a physical impairment, but since my senior year in high school (1971) have had a very keen interest in aeronautics.
Now for my question regarding magnetic heading and the aircraft's magnetic...

Airplanes and Brakes? by
Ol Shy & Bashful
I'm deligthted to see I'm managing to get some arguments and
discussion going. And if you notice, No Profanity?
I challenge my students to learn to taxi without brakes. and I come
down hard if they beat up the airplane with unecessary braking instead
of staying ahead of the airplane. (sometimes...

AirPlanLite by
Dean Wilkinson
Hello RAP newsgroup pilots, posters and lurkers,
I posted a message a couple weeks ago about a new product that I put out
called AirPlanLite. I was wondering how many people in RAP have actually
tried it, and if they have any feedback they would like to share.
I know that because I am asking for...

Airport and Airport 1975 by
Dave J
Okay, in a fit of aviation desperation, I decided to watch these two
films back to back as a way to get my regular fix without running the
Hobbs.
The movies are interesting. They're this strange mix of preposterous
and kinda 1/2 decent from an aviation persepective, especially the
first one. They...

Airport Cafe by
Jay Honeck
At other times, in other restaurants, he would be the guy to be studiously
avoided, like a stray dog that looked friendly. In a freeway restaurant, or
a hotel lobby, he would be the old guy that would cause you to avert your

airport cars by
Kobra[_3_]
Flyers,
I was reading my Pilot Getaways Mag this morning and found an article about
something I've been thinking about myself for years.
It is an internet based Airport courtesy car club. I just signed up today
because I have a POJ (piece of junk) that I keep at ACY and every time I go
there...

Airport Database by
Wizard of Draws
Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on an airport database with name,
ID, lat/long and elevation?
I've found two from separate sources that are close, but each is missing at
least one element that I'd like to have and I don't relish the thought of
trying to merge them into one.

Airport Deicing Question by

The FAA website provides information about airports that are currently
deicing aircraft via their website at...

When an airport is reported as deicing the acceptance rate and
departure rate is also provided. Why is this? How does deicing affect

Airport Geocaching by

If you're looking for something to do with your airplane, check out

Some of the regular posters on here have their airport represented
by the map showing geocaches near airports. I tried to scare up a
little interest in this a...

Airport graveyard in Arizona by
G. Sylvester
I will be going to Tucson in the next couple of days. IIRC
there is an airport graveyard/mothball site somewhere nearby
that you can visit? What are the names, locations (if you have
it) and are they worth visiting?
thanks in advance.

Airport guides on video? by
Philip Sondericker
Does anyone know of any videos that provide overviews of airports--kind of
an "AFD on video" type of thing? Anything that's broken down by region?
Thanks.

Airport Identifier Logic by
Jay Honeck
In another thread, someone mentioned that only 13% (or something like that)
of the possible 3-letter combinations are currently used as airport
identifiers. Given this fact, why in the world did they start mixing
numbers into the scene?
For example, why "C89" (for Sylvania Field, in WI) instead...

Airport lat/lon database by
Ron Garret
Anyone know where I can find a list of US airports and their lat/lon
positions? I know about the airnav site, but that only lets me get one
at a time. I need a list that I can feed into a database. (I only need
US airports with instrument approach procedures.)
Thanks,

Airport names by
Wally Samuelson
Hi everyone-The thread on airport identifiers is getting a little long, so I
thought I'd start a new one. There doesn't seem to be any standards for
naming airports, except for what the local pols dream up.
JFK is obvious of course, and O'Hare is named after a Medal of Honor winner.
